I'm in mourning!
« on: 29 May 2007, 01:45:35 »

I don't know if it's just the beer talking, (and believe me I've had a few!!), but, I am absoloutely gutted that I've had to say goodbye, (Au Revoir), to my MV6.

I find it absolutely abhorent that I should be so attached too something that amounts to no more than a 'machine', but I'm finding my recent parting very difficult to deal with.

With no exception, the car I recently parted with, was the asolute epitomy of me.

Fast, comfortable, easy, (drinks a lot!),  and aesthetically pleasing, (I wish!). What more can I say?

Is this unhealthy?

Oh dear....

Sometimes it does make no sense, but you do get so very attached to a car.  :(

At least take heart in the fact it has gone to someone you know, and that they will look after it.  :y

i can understand your feeling. Had to cull my fleet of cars from 15 down to 4. Every one of them a good friend that i lavished love on through the good times and the bad.

Still look through the DVLA web site to see if 'they' are still around. Sad or what. :'( :'(

Holy Moly!!! 15 cars at once!?!?!?!  :o I want to know where your garage is Dave!!  :y

The best I've had was seven!!!!

Even then though, I could list reasons for not getting rid of any of them, (even though I hadn't driven some of them!!)

I remember my Dad trading in my Mum's first car, an 850 Mini, when I was 5. I thought the world had ended!!  ::)

Rod, you have my deepest sympathy mate, I've only had it since Friday and I can feel it attaching itself to me already ;) 8-)

Didn't get too much time to spend in it at the weekend as busy with family do's, but tomorrow I'm going up North to our office just outside Oldham, so my first decent run in it. :y

Thanks Bob!! Enjoy it.

Being used to a manual, there's a few 'nuances' that the auto responds well to.

I'm not trying to teach you to suck eggs, and you'll probably figure this all out for yourself, but jsut thought I'd mention................

Although it'll do the job, burying the foot in the floor isn't the best way to accelerate, i found it responds better to firm but gradual application of the throttle down to just before the 'kick down' switch is activated.

Use the sports button whenever you're not driving at high speed. It's very effective at controlling your speed and it more responsive when you need it at short notice.

Not transmission related, but be aware when using lane 1 on a motorway as it can tramline very badly at times. Keep to the high ground between the lorry ruts. It was quite wierd driving a car that doesn't 'tramline' yesterday!!  ::)

Funny actually, I really enjoyed driving a 'stick' for a change. Not sure I'd like it if my mileage started going up again though.

Although I've always maintained that I prefer a manual box, I'm getting to like this a lot :y

BTW Rod, you're gonna have to change your avatar - seems to be a picture of my car!! ::) ;D

I actually stop there quite regularly on my trips home.

The entry takes a bit of negotiation. One time in my old Senator I hit a pothole so hard I was in danger of rejoining the motorway again but in the wrong direction!!  :o
