ESAB eye-tech auto screen

I've got one of these screens (not the newer style eye-tech II)
Due to it having lived a while in a dark cupboard I think the battery inside has died  :(. The last time I tried using it I'd to 'charge it up' by arcing/welding a rod in front of the screen, and even that was iffy.
I'm sure that I've seen a 'how-to-do' somewhere on the web where the screen insert was stripped & the battery replaced.
Anyone done something similar? (or seen the how-to-do)  :-/ :-/

Like my Parweld lid; it`s normally a cutting/soldering and glueing job to replace batts.....why do they make it so difficult? :-/

The best screen was one where I used to work and had a small 12v battery inside instead of a solar panel. It seems though, that everyone makes solar screens nowadays.  :(

It is, but they have a battery inside that takes a charge so that it has enough power to darken as soon as you strike up even when you've just taken it out of a dark cupboard.
