Paypal dispute
« on: 18 May 2011, 13:36:42 »

At 9am this morning, we sold an item on ebay for £22 + £8 postage.

At 1pm, I receive a 'Paypal dispute' email, stating the item is not received, and paypal have witheld the funds!

Despite logging it as a 'not received' dispute, he has stated 'sorry, I didn't realise my friend paid for this last night' in the case notes.

Which is utter crap. Nobody paid for anything, last night.

So, what do I do

A) Post it anyway, and update the dispute, providing paypal with the tracking proof, that it's been sent, and let them decide.

B) Give him a refund, and chalk him up as a tool.

C) Other.

If Paypal have withheld the funds, don't post anything.

I'd just sit on my hands, TBH, and if payment is not forthcoming, re-list.

Kev, Sophie is in the post office as we speak, with your LPG cable. I should have a tracking number once she's done :y

The item is very low value, so I might have a bit of fun, on principle. As it's logged as a 'not received' dispute, if I can provide proof it has been received, it should be found in my favour?

What an idiot, had he sent a message saying "sorry, changed my mind" I've have done an instant refund.

But pretending it was paid for twice, when it wasn't... I intend to win the dispute on principle!  ;D

I would be tempted to wait and see how it pans out, althought I would respond to the dispute stating that was bought at 9am this morning and that the seller can't possibly expect to have received it within 4 hours!

Then leave it at that, it won't take long to put a quick response in and at least you are fighting your case (I suspect you will loose the dispute if you don't attempt to clarify your position).

Yep. Paypal rarely side with the seller! (They normally side with Paypal, of course. ::))

I would agree with that - in addition, I would make PayPal aware of the allegation of payment being made by another party last evening and ask them to investigate.

I would have no further contact with the buyer pending any investigation and certainly would not post the item at this stage.

If it was a scam, would you not at least wait till you get the item, before trying to log a dispute  :-/

Either way, I've entered full information into paypal, and told them I think I'm a victim of fraud - I'll update with the outcome!! :y

You would think so, as without them actually having the item they have nothing to gain!  I got caught out by this once when I first started using Ebay, couldn't prove it was a scam but suspected it, so now everything gets sent recorded so there can be no dispute over delivery.

For paypal holding the fund. that has happened to me in the past, they say they do it randomly, and once the buyer leaves feedback, the funds are released onto the account? i didnt like the sound of that but did go ahead with it, keeping track off everything for the postage, 2days down the line got feedback and funds released!

As for what the buyer is saying 'he didnt pay, his friend did' i think thats craap!  :y
