If your under 21 when you pass your test you are restricted to 33bhp for two years.

If you're over 21 you are too (IIRC) but you can do your test on a larger bike and have full entitlement... Direct Access

it just seems that you always have just one more hoop to jump through these days if you want your bike test. I'm glad I passed mine back in the days of 250cc learners going around the block.

And you could see the examiner getting ready to step into the road for the 'Emergency Stop'.....

Mind, I also remember doing my car test and watching the examiner check the rear view mirror and look around before banging the dash with his clip board...Those were the days.......
That said, most family cars would not reach 100mph and 0-60 times allowed for amply reaction time...

I worked out how much it would cost me to do my direct access test (and CBT etc) given I'd be hiring a bike to do it on etc.. I soon realised I had better things to spend £700 on!

I also wish i'd taken my test @ 17 when all you had to do was get on the thing & not fall off but after my Fizzie the new KH250 felt & sounded like it was going into orbit....once the centre pot cut in!!! When the busted us all down i feel those of us should at least have kept "Grandad rights" to ride a 250 on L's even with a bi annual CBT as with the 7.5 tonne trucks.
   I fancy another bike but want to stay on L plates. I can't be arsed to go through all the theory/haz aware B/S & the hundreds of pounds it costs to be patronized/passed/failed by someone who was'nt even born when i was riding,i just can't handle it & don't want a screaming fast bike.

    So it's a 125 & renew my CBT or take the test, no other way round it?

I went from a Fizzy to an S1, and as you say, what an animal once that centre pot caught up 

I can't be arsed to go through all the theory/haz aware B/S & the hundreds of pounds it costs to be patronized/passed/failed by someone who was'nt even born when i was riding,i just can't handle it & don't want a screaming fast bike.

I was one of the last to take the original "ride around the block for 20 mins" tests before all that circus performing seal rubbish was introduced, cost me £12 IIRC.

So it's a 125 & renew my CBT or take the test, no other way round it?

Fraid so, but you'll be restricted to 125cc if you don't take (and pass) the test.

If you are 21 or over and choose to take the "Direct Access" test and pass, you can ride whatever you like.
If you are under 21 and take (pass) the Direct Access test, you will have to wait until you are 21 (or 2 years has elapsed) before you can ride full power.

Note that the 33BHP restriction is nothing more than a bit of paper from a motorcycle shop that says a restrictor kit has been fitted to your Hayabusa Turbo, nobody actually checks how many horses you are laying down

Well if i want to ride legally..which i do..then i'll have to bite the bullet & do it properly. I just resent having to do a theory test when i drive an artic for a living. Never mind, at least when i've done it it's out of the way & i can choose what i ride...............1200 Bandit!!!!! 8-)

A nice (and cheap) "wheelie machine", but I don't like the fact you have to rev the nuts off them to get them doing anything excitable.

Well, not until you bury it into the back of car travelling in front of you anyway!!!!

Going off on a bit of a tangent here,but the DVLC has a nasty habit of when you renew your licence,they DO NOT list all of your classes entitlements etc on the new licence.
So remember to photocopy your old one before you replace to you can PROVE to them,that you are entitled to them.
My friend failed to check his new licence,and when it was brought to his notice ,he had no proof regarding his bike licence,so now no bike until he's retested.

That'll be the 600, i had one. A good 1200 Bandit will give a 900 blade a run for it's money, i've been on the back of one @ 150 between roundabouts & i'm 18 stone.

   Besides i prefer the Sreetfighter scene to the sportbikes.
