Did you know? (politics)
« on: 08 June 2011, 22:02:26 »

That today in Strasbourg, the European Parliament adopted proposals to increase the EU budget, introduce a financial transaction tax, abolish national rebates, impose direct EU taxes and end the returning of unspent EU money to national governments.

No, it isn't being reported much. The worst of these has to be the proposal to impose direct EU taxes.

I feel that, with energy prices rising the way they are and the threat of direct taxation by the Brussels elite, things can only get ugly, especially this winter.  :( >:(

It's a logical step forward on the way to the EU 'super-state'.

If you wish to introduce common domestic, foreign and defence policies you really need tax raising powers to fund these.

The seat of power will then rest in 'Brussels' with the former sovereign governments reduced to being merely local administrators of central policy.

I thought the Germans tried something like this many years ago :-?

The EU is like the elephant in the room.

How can it be that only UKIP try and inform the electorate about the EU. Why doesn't an investigative journalist do a series of programmes on TV about the EU?

PS will the Germans get fined for ruining Spanish farmers even if they get EU compensation paid for by US taxpayers? Don't imagine so. In fact the Germans have done EU agriculture a great disservice but no one will take them to task over their irresponsible behaviour. :o :o :o

Sneering, nasty and very anti-UK.

Meet the federalist leader of the EU Liberals speaking at yesterday's debate. One of our new leaders, unless we're very careful.

I don’t blame the EU bureaucrats at all – they’re doing what comes naturally to them. The problem, in my view, lies fairly and squarely within the portals of Westminster.

In essence we can be likened to turkeys voting for Christmas.

It’s about time that Westminster was cleared the blank out and a government installed to actually assume the responsibility of governing with the intent of looking after the interests of this country first and foremost.

Yes, I don’t think that many people realise how dangerous this situation is - the EU has grown beyond the common trading association originally envisaged into a bureaucratic empire the dictates of which -  or diktats if you prefer, either is applicable - are final and unarguable.

We have lost control of our own country because of gutless nancy-boys, more intent on self advancement than concern for their country - and of its people.

And there is only one party which speaks out against it.
Everyone who is genuinely concerned about the issue, should imo vote for them to try to steer the other idiots back to a position of sanity. Its far more important than all the domestic issues.

That's what worries me. Reading the comments below the YouTube video I recently posted, a number (rightly in my view) drew analogies to the utterances of a certain German (Austrian) in the 1930s. This time, though, the people are far less politically-aware. However, when the lights go out - as they undoubtedly will- we may find that even they will rise up from their somnulence.
