MPG.
« on: 29 May 2007, 22:29:05 »

:-/When i bought my 2.5 man with 95k the display showed 26. something. It now shows 23.Something but only does short runs. Probably does'nt help that i like upsetting the hot hatches trying to get inside my boot but mostly i cruise.
Last xmas i visited family, used £80 petrol, covered 600mls, still had a bit left & display showed 28.something.
Mileage approaching 98k now, just wondered what mpg others are getting & should we take our displays as gospel. I do'nt think i'm putting much fuel in for the size & weight of the car so wonder what all you OOFERS think. ( disregarding manufacturers claimed figures) 8-)

Just changed the plugs on my 2.2 for Vx ones (had NGK past 12m) and fuel consumption up more than 10% on a 200 mile run to my parents - 75mph on cruise. Tow bar doesn't help I'm sure. :-/

26/27 round town and now 33+ on a run.

It's those extra 2 cylinders that weigh you down  :P

Mine is an estate auto 2.5, worst is round town where it makes 18-19mpg, mixed driving gets 22-24 but on a long cruise it just gets into the low 30s, although I did have a run where I got 35mpg over 60 miles - but I got bored of that!  Just did a run to Brighton from Plymouth fully loaded and got 28.

Sounds like similar numbers to my 2.5 manual in those sort of conditions mate.  Just smile and keep putting the go go juice in. :y

If you think the towbar is bad for your MPG, wait until you attach something to it :o

2.5 V6 Auto Elite Saloon (76k miles) around 26.5 mpg - mostly A-roads to and from work (55 mile round trip).  :-/
My gas pedal has only 2 positions though .... on and off!  :-[
I don't find that the climate being on or off makes much difference at all.

Recent 70mph cruise saw it approach 28mpg.

I've never got anywhere near 35 average even on long m-way trips so that's impressive.
Long term average is about 31-32 mixed driving.

I usually charge about and was getting around 24-25. On Tuesday I decided to see what I could get by driving like Ronnie McB. Gentle acceleration, braking early, changing up earlier and, crucially, 70mph or less on the motorway. I've only done about 100 miles yet, but, the computer is showing 31.5mpg :o :o :o.
From a 2.5 V6, that is amazing, and I'm actually going to try and keep it up. Not only am I saving money, I really do feel more relaxed behind the wheel.
My omega is very well maintained, so I guess that helps economy as well.

PS. A young lady pulled up alongside me today in an MGZR and gave me 'the look'. I watched her disappear into the distance and it didn't bother me one bit. I'm getting old and I dont care 8-)

my 2.5 auto facelift has 128,000 miles on it and  generally gives me 28/30 on a fast motorway run and 25/28 round town

i generally take it easy and don't hit the loud pedal too much these days

Climate doesn't make too much difference as far as i can see
