Speed testers are pretty pointless. Virtually every ISP that fettles traffic (virtually all of them), will artificially make themselves look good on popular ones like speedtest.net
Yup, it's a very easy trick to pull.

Virgin media recently had (ahem!) "network difficulties" which caused national access/latency problems for it`s cable-BB customers; in some areas for a week or so!.......V.M appeared to tackle the situation, by simply denying access to all the usual speed-testing `sites.......
"Problem: what problem!" ;)

Sadly, thats been a recurring tactic of VM, and NTL before...   ...and a reason I won't use them

You're not wrong there, I only suffered for a few hours so that didn't really bother me as things do go wrong from time to time.

They also refuse to accept there are a few issues with their "superhub", even though Google brings up tens of thousands of hits for god knows how many customers suffering from the same issues.

Indeed, but I think denial that anything had gone wrong is a poor response. I'd much rather see a honest response, whatever the cause was.

Do CS use phrases like 'isolated incidents' and 'the vast majority are fine' :P ;D

You have obviously worked in first line  ;D ;D

I did end up talking to one level 2 tech who openly admitted the superhub was "a piece of crap" (his words) and that VM were moving away from Netgear because of all the issues that were arising, but my money is still on the problems being caused because VM can't rebrand/customise the Netgear firmware properly.

Nope, only ever had to clear up the mess that 1st and 2nd line cause ;D

In fairness to VM, the base NG firmwares are a bit buggy, probably why slowly going over to OpenRouter firmware  :-/
