WTF - I'm going mad!
« on: 14 June 2011, 09:55:33 »

on this thread http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1306577125/15#25

I posted a comment at 9:50am today, I typed the word
E N G I N E E R  yet it posted the word ''Technician''........

I edited it, deleting the word ''Technician'' and replaced it with ''E N G I N E E R'', saved it, yet again OOF had replaced it with ''Technician''

Couldn't believe my eyes, it is obviously OOF playing tricks, just wondered why....

 :D

I even had to edit this thread  ;D :D ;D

One of our Mods/Admins has a personal dislike of people using the 'E' word; when the 'T' word is the most appropriate description. ;)

....a bit of fun; except when one really IS trying to use the 'E' word appropriately! ::)

Thought it would be something along those lines, very strange when you check what you've typed prior to posting and once posted it has changed!

The auto-correct is also active for (other) offensive words and phrases too! ;)

An Admin`s similar allergy to "txt spk" means it can be tricky to legitimately add measurements using SI units. :(

I believe a certain admin believes that nobody really means 'e n g i n e e r' even when they say it; they believe that anyone claiming to be such a person is, in fact, just a technician and the only time you should use the E word is either a Locomotive E n g i n e e r or a person who has a relevant engineering degree from University..

quite rightly in my opinion - people bandy the word 3ngin33r about too readily these days, - if i see one more person claiming to be an 3ngin33r because they did some 2 day vocational course in how to bolt a sky dish to a chimney i'll go mad ;D ;D

i'm pretty sure you cant just call yourself Doctor or Professor without relevant knowledge, experience and qualifications.....i'm guessing it makes a mundane, menial, low skill job sound a tad more important than it really is when in actual fact they should be in the 1st ark off Golgafrincham1 and the actual doers and thinkers are right behind you...honest  :y

Indeed

The UK is one of the few developed nations where the title engineer has not been protection and is consequently applied to many semi-skilled trades e.g. gas fitter, plumber, window fitter etc etc (yes sorry but these are what are classed as semi skilled trades!).

The impact is a massive fall off in the last ten years of 'professional engineers' training and this is affecting our economy.....and without 'professional engineers' manufacturing does get affected (as without world leading design, the production does not follow)

It would mean something went wrong and you would be flattened  :)

If you had an engine on both ears would you be 'The Human Centi-veed'
