Been a few times to the Lake District, so the route in my head is:-

Start
Go North
When big hills appear on left turn off motorway
Drive past lots of people wearing overpriced fleeces and walking boots
When you think you have gone far enough turn a hairpin right into a field
Stop

Well it worked last year!

:P You could go South; but you`d have to allow a little more time! ;D

Is this the a66 avoiding short cut just south of scotch corner? Sat nags are fine, just don't expect it to drive the car for you.  :)

No, it's over at the Lakes end, suggested a short cut from the A66 via country lanes to the site, I shall now keep going and follow the main road turning left onto the A591 before turning left into Dale Bottom Farm :y

Not sure which route you are talking about, but massive Roadworks from South of Ripon North, with 50mph average speed cameras in operation, will be worth it in the end though... :) :)

Same route I'm intending to take as I plan to be at my mum's in Richmond for a couple of nights before hand ;) :y

Very scenic route, great on a bike...... ;D ;D ;D

I'm looking forward to doing it in the car too ;) ;)

Where are you planning to come off the A1 at? Because of roadworks if you are thinking of coming off towards Bedale and on through Leyburn, and in for a leisurely drive, you may be better off coming of at Ripon and going up through Leyburn that way.....

To get to mum's I normally just come off at Skeeby as it's generally quicker :-/ :-/

Mind you, we should be getting up there late Tuesday night so should only have the Average Speed to deal with ;) ;) :y :y

I'm confused... Are you talking about my route to mum's or from there to the Lakes on Thursday? :-? :-? Remember, I don't really know the area that well ;) ;)

Going up to mum's I'll nip through Skeeby, when I come out on Thursday I don't know what route I'll take to the A66 yet ::)

Right, with you now :-[ ::)

I just go that way out of habit now as turning into her road if you come in from Catterick can be a little awkward, especially in a lorry or with a car on a trailer (as I was the first and third times I visited ;)) :y

Now I just go that way for ease because I know it ;) ;)

As long as you manage to get to the Lakes, looking forward to sharing a tipple or two with you...... :y :y
