Washing machines! Arghh!
« on: 20 July 2011, 16:28:18 »

Does anyone know anything about washing machines?  Mine stopped working a couple of weeks ago and I can't afford a new one. :'(

It's getting quite bad now as I'm having to wear all my old clothes and none of them match and some are from the eighties! ;D ;D ;D

Anyway, it's an indesit WG1285W and it switches on but the programs won't start.  I thought it might be the door interlock as the light nevers comes on to say it is locked.

Anybody got any ideas?

I think I might get arrested soon for crimes to fashion!

If the light doesn't come on to say the door is closed your possibly right. There is a micro-switch which is in a similar way (like the little button in the corner of a car door which turns off the interior light) I'm not sure how they actually operate on that model, but have a look around the door and the locking pin area (bit where the door secures to the machine) & see if anything has broken / fell off. If the mechanism is faulty may need to take front off to repair it though.

The old Electra machines were a pain for that happenin!!

I took the switch out and it looks ok.  Is there anyway to test it?

Also, tried switching the machine off for 24 hours, still no luck.

I'm getting desperate now. Been gardening in this get up!

The door lock is a bi metal strip on that and it needs to energise, you will have three wires on it can't remember if brown and red but short the two outside wires together that should bypass it,
sounds like the door lock, if you can post a picture it will jog my memory,
I have been an appliance engineer for 30 years but been out of it for five now,

Thanks for helping! :y

Should I short out the ones on the left or right.  Is it safe to do this with the machine powered on?
