Had one last year in the air brick called a fellow out cost me £60 he came round sprayed Some white power and we sat there laughing as their came out like little ghosts flew around then dropped to the floor dead. All over in 10 minutes

If you do get the same problem with bees, call your local council.  They will contact a local bee keeper who will come and remove the swarm for no charge - it's a free colony for them to install in a new hive.

What I meant was that a swarm of bees is a valuable thing to a bee keeper.  Any dedicated bee keeper would gladly visit you free of charge, transfer the swarm to a cardboard box and take it home with him. 

The local council will just put you in touch with such a bee keeper. 

Most councils actually have some sort of "on call" arrangement with a local expert.  If money changes hands it will be a nominal amount and much less than pest control would cost.

many moons ago when I was about 12 and just starting chemistry - we used to buy calcium carbide and mix with water in my mate's shed/summer house. The acetyle gas produced (CaC2 + 2 H2O [ch8594] C2H2 + Ca(OH)2) was captured in ballooons and a pipette attached and we then proceeded to spend most of the summer clearing wasps nests with our new found flame throwers. We even went around asking if anyone wanted wasps nests clearing.

If we tell the youngster now - would they believe us....?
