Last year my mate from Scotland visited.  As my mate is paraplegic and Lyme Regis is very hilly, when we went out for lunch, I grabbed his blue badge and we parked on the seafront (double yellows) and headed off to the pub!  8-)

When we got back a couple of hours later, there was a ticket on my car  >:( So we're stood there scratching our heads and going WTF!!! and this bloke comes over and says 'It's 'cos you havn't got a clock!'  I could have clocked the self important idiot  ;D

Anyhow, it turns out that there are different blue badge rules in Scotland and England... In Scotland you can park on double yellows as long as you like, in England it's max 3 hours and you have a clock to show your arrival time.  Of course my mate didn't know this and has never been issued with a clock!

I appealed against the ticket, and sent in a copy of my mates blue badge, which clearly shows it's issued in Scotland, only for them to reply that he should have checked the rules and regulations before travelling!! >:(  The irony is that we didn't even overstay the 3 hour limit!!  :(

Petty, petty barstewards!!  >:( >:( >:( >:(

Sounds a bit like a 'Jobsworth'  :( I know that in Stockton, as long as you are parked out of the way and not causing a hazard, then they do not worry about the 3 hour rule... :y

No Ljay....it states that in the terms and conitions paperwork that I got with mine. Don't forget that you have to display the front of the Blue Badge and the time clock too or risk a penalty. Now also I have been told that not only anyone in authority but now any other Blue Badge holder can request to see the photograph if they suspect the driver is abusing the badge. Big brother is here to stay....
I have copied mine and laminated it so when I go into a car park where it has to be displayed I still can have proof if I need it to prove I qualify for any other disabled facilities such as scooter hire or toilets and lifts.
There are lots of does and dont's to follow and the risk of losing it now, because that is now an automatic penalty for its misuse, are too high to risk contravening any of them.
Have a looky here cos it covers the EU too;

Hope that helps.

Slightly off topic, but its a bit like the Mother and Child parking places....

Under UK law, a 'child' is a 'child' until it reaches its eighteenth birthday. Therefore, you cannot be 'done' for using one of the aforementioned spaces if you take a child with you that is under eighteen :y

A lot of places are specifying that they are for buggy users only which is better.  I believe up to age 7 is acceptable.

Oh and I hate blue badge users hogging these spaces as there are usually more disabled than buggy user spaces so why can't they use one of them.  If we're out with our son I use disabled spaces to leave the buggy spaces for parents who actually need them.

Thanks for thoughts and info folks. :y

Its the opposite where we usually shop. The people who drive up to look for a child space only to find there are none vacant, constantly park in the disabled spaces which are opposite the child spaces. >:(

Who told you that? I ask because, although I have no problem with it, I would have thought it could put a person 'at risk' by challenging another driver, able or not..... :-/ :-/ :-/

I was told that by the police who at the time were conducting a stop and check in Charles Street, Leicester which is Bus, Cab and Blue Badge only and is clearly marked as such but is severely abused every day by normal drivers and vans. Every month or so the police do a random one and according to the one I asked when stopped she said that it was not unusual to hand out anywhere up to 50 tickets in a few hours. At £30.00 a go it soon brings in the revenue!
The words that were used was something like ' anyone in authority hes the full authority to see  proof of the identity of the badge holder and anyone who suspects that a badge is being abused can ask for it too but cannot force it. Obviously you do not get in anyones face about it and put yourself at risk but if the request is a polite one, the reason for the request explained and the person asked is acting correctly then why would they refuse or become violent? Would it not be common sense for them to understand that it is being done for the benefit of all genuine Blue Badge holders? I certainly would not object if someone asked me to see proof I was the person on the badge and was driving solo because my badge is genuine. There is so much abuse of the Blue Badge going on, as all Blue Badge holders know, that the regulations governing its use are changing and adapting to prevent it. Some big stores in this area with car parking now use their own security or an outside firm to monitor their spaces and check the validity of anyone using them.
Whtaver happens there will always be abusers of the system and until those most threatened and inconvenienced by the selfish actions of others start to react against those actions it will only become worse. When I have asked to see proof on the very few times I have the other driver has sworn at me and drove quickly off because lots of other drivers were staring at us. I always note their registration number, type of car, their description and report it to the car park attendants, to the police and local authority.
No doubt many will disagree with me but that is up to them. I will not be walked over by anyone and will stand up for my rights as a disabled person each occassion that warrants it. I also report the abuseres of the other restricted parking spaces too because selfish acts are not fair to struggling parents with children either..... ;)

Being a Blue Badge holder I do get frustated at the number of people, more often than not, white van man, some ethnic or a fat bird parking in a bay reserved for the disabled driver, or passenger. The usual excuse is I'll only be a minute, to which I reply 'I might be some time, while you are blocked in' :y

On a funnier note there are two disabled bays at our local shops, and an old lady insists on parking her mobility scooter right in the middle of one of the bays while she goes for a coffee ::)

The main problem in supermarkets is that the wider disabled bays are near to the entrance/exit, and people use the gap to negotiate their trolly through. The number of scratches, and a small dent on my car that are at shopping trolley height is unforgiveable >:( :(
