kitchen bits
« on: 08 August 2011, 14:44:33 »

Having asked for plumber's thoughts on my shower it's now the turn of kitchen fitters!  ;D
SWMBO in her typical kack handed manner has pulled a kitchen door off, the actuall hinge has broken. It's from a double door in an internal corner ie hinging from another hinged door. I've had a look in B & Q as I was passing them on the way t the shower section  ;D but they've not got anything like it.
A look on eBay shows thousands of hinges from piano to shed door hinges.
Anyone know were I'm likely to find a pair of these please.  :y TIA
This is on the right hand door.

This is the other half of above

and this is the gap it's been ripped off from

Are you sure it's broken, Andy? It looks more like it's just slid off it's mating half to me.. unless the threads on the grub screw captive in the hinge side are stripped? (In which case you could probably just find a replacement screw)

IIRC it should be held fixed to the fixed side by the screw still present in the fixed side, and it should just slide on (but I could have the screws backasswards, it's been a while since I had to mess with one of those infernal inventions)

That doesn't look broken to me.  Just slide it back on and tighten it up. Jobs a good 'un.

Fourth opinion thats it's not broken.

Not unusual for the screw on the carcass plate to strip - just find another screw.

Also make sure the flat back part of adjusting screw (on the hinge itself)  locates & slides  into the square  slot on the carcass plate as the forked end of the hinge goes onto the back screw.

Door up & down height  adjustment is  done by the carcass plate screws  (4 off   2 on each plate)   side to side adjustment is done by the screw in each hinge.

Crikey this is hard to explain   :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

cuppa required after that :D :D :D

hope this helps.    got loads of spare ones here
 but I'm in Southend  ;D ;D ;D

Defo just needs to be retightened.

I work for Screwfix and had a customer in a few weeks ago in a similar situation, she had brought both parts with her and couldn't work out how they went back together.

It is quite a common thing on these hinges for them to work loose with time,no one gives them a second thought(bit like checking tyre pressures  :-[)

when you tighten the back screw when connecting both parts together, you adjust the front screw top and bottom to line it up with the other door or cupboard edge, this may loosen the back screw slightly so make sure you tighten the back one again after for extra lock.  :y

that middle screw should not be on there, this could be the reason its come loose, that looks like its been put there cause the origianl screws are no longer on the hinge as you have wood screws holding the hinge plate to the cupboard

This is the bit that's broken, I was showing the complete hinge, perhaps I should've given a better explanation.  ;)

and should be hinging on the pin that has the spring on it
