tunnie gets 6 cylinders....
« on: 11 August 2011, 21:00:34 »

No not a new Omega, 6 cylinders on a bike!

My GS was due a service, so I took it to Cotswold BMW. Even though many dealers are closer, as they are still new-ish they are very competitive on servicing costs, over £100 cheaper than Oxford, plus its a nice ride over there!

While mine was being serviced, I borrowed this:

Its BMW's new K1600 GTL, I wanted just the standard GT, as thats more sports focused, but this was all they had.

Its got BMW's new 1,649cc Inline 6 engine. What can I say? 160 bhp and 6 pots on a bike, its a fantastic combination....

Its got an Adpative Zenon light, so it turns as you turn, the first for a bike. Shame I could not try it at night.

Its dash is rather nice, very easy to read even in direct light and built in Sat Nav.

Its got various USB & Aux inputs for iPods/iPhones/MP3 players and such....

I took it to the Brecon Beacons, via Monmouth.....

The engine, is an astonishing bit of kit.... 4th gear, 15mph it pulls, and pulls well... 20,30,40,50,60 mph (tick past like seconds) 70mph, 80mph, 90mph (still in 4th!) 100mph, 110 mph, 120 mph, 130mph, 135mph and red line in 4th.... (still got 5th and 6th  ::))

You never ever need to change gear in this thing, I did have to get used to the seat being a lot lower than my GS, the footrests were rests not pegs and far too big. I really struggled to fit my size 13's to loop my foot under the gear selector.

Whilst the engine was amazing and it was silky, silky smooth and got more gadgets than a Bond car, it still was not as 'fun' as mine.

Mainly due to its GT-L nature, the steering was setup for touring not as flickable as mine.

MPG was reasonable, I averaged 46mpg, I was hardly riding economically either  ::)  :-X

Can't wait to try the standard GT, think i need to start saving  ::)

Honda & Kawasaki were doing it 30 years ago Cem.
The Kwaka also had fuel injection.

A few 6 pot bikes over the years. http://motoaus.com/retro/bikes/six-cylinder-motorcycle-guide.html
I remember looking through the window of a bike shop on my way to school that had a benelli 250 6 pot on display.  :y  :y

There used to be Z1300 knocking about Gosport/Fareham early 80's that had a 'side winder' side car fitted so he could stay on L plates!  :o  ;D  ;D  ;D

Great bike Tunnie. Even with (I guess about 300 plus kilos ) to lug about, it should still go like shit off a shovel.

At my age I really fancy the idea of a big cubed tourer. :y :y
