Some sympathy for my manager.....
« on: 23 August 2011, 21:46:22 »

I am in the second of two weeks covering her absence, and my eyes are being opened. I can't get my work done for sorting out other problems, questions, situations etc and I have 2 of 6 key staff off sick :( What is getting me most is that I do not have my interview to enable me to do this until 14th September.....

What I see going on, and get involved with, all the time is different when you have everyone coming to you for advice or guidance, anything really serious I can go to senior management, but I need to show them I can do it on my own....... :D :D

I had to run a job in Geneva a few yrs ago. every few mins people asking what to do. and i didn't get none of my own work done. too stressful for the tiny eextra pennies you get, sometimes its better to know nothing. hope things smooth out lamps

Sounds familiar.I had a few years at it and jacked it in to go back on the shop floor. Its a mugs game imo, only reason I could think of to carry on was the possible embarrassment at the loss of job title, and Im not the type to lose much sleep over that. ;)

seeing as you're covering your manager, why don't you book your yearly appraisal while she's away......

Yep, I have done it before and had more trouble with the staff than the job. Very different role now and I have no intention on seeking a managers position, however, I am classed as 'the senior' by default as our last 'senior' has moved on. I chose to go for the progression because if I am going to have to cover, from time to time, I might as well get the higher pay scale :y if however I fail the interview in September then they can forget it, I will refuse the responsibility....
