wasps!
« on: 26 August 2011, 17:06:35 »

I noticed a few due ago when I went to my boat project that there seemed to be a lot of wasps coming and going, thus there was a nest somewhere in the boat.  Due to the sheer number.  I bought some wasps nest killer powder from b&q and gradually made my way taking the tarpulin off.  It took a few visits but I finally managed to find the nest.  It's huge!  A large party salad bowl size and then some!.  I have killed a lot of the wasps already but I have Tue nest a good covering of powder.  Hopefully that will finish them off, if not I'll have to call a.professional.  I'll see if I can post some pics.tomorrow.

Found a wasps nest in my boat in the for'd locker a few years ago fortunately they had breaked off.
with all this elf an safety you just can't get the kit nowadsays. I remember years ago when I used to go coarse fishing we collected wasp grubs which are an exellent bait using a product called Cymag. It did the job stick it in the nest and it stuffed the wasps within twenty minutes but left the grubs alive. The clues in the name it contained cyanide but it didn't do me any harm I think  :-/ :)

We saw a sign outside a restaurant yesterday saying;
''The nations wasps have turned nasty, outdoor eating area closed, please sit inside!''

There do seem to be loads about and I've heard of lots more people being stung this year too. :(

Good luck getting rid, don't suppose it would be too much fun being out on the water and then discovering it! :(

Took the kids to Folly Farm, a place where you can see animals and play on rides, the other day - never been pestered by so many wasps in my life - eating our picnic was a case of eat with one hand, swipe wasps with the other. Hate the bloody things  :(

Best thing we bought was an industrial electric 30 watt insect killer. When the wabbies hit the grid it blows them in half. Trouble is that when they go the blue light in the night the 'bang' wakes us up..... :D

They are the devils spawn.Recommend spray with hairspray and light match.Stand back and admire them as they die a painful death.Have fire extinguisher at the ready in case boat catches fire as well.

The boat is wood  :-?

I think I have got them all now.  Only a few were coming in and out on my last visit and then I gave it another more direct squirt of powder.  I will have a look in the morning to check.

Needless to say I didnt go sailing  :'(
