So when are the twins due?

Where is our server going to go?

How long will it take to drive to South Africa for Tech2 diagnosis?

Will you visit Cape Jets?
I am happy to keep the server at home - wherever that may be - for as long as its viable (bandwidth will eventually become the issue).

I am actively looking to sell the Tech2

Server - so it could end up in SA? :o

Tech2 - I am thinking maybe we need a whip round on the forum.

Tech2 - I am thinking maybe we need a whip round on the forum.

We need to think about how it might work first. As TheBoy and others have said, and as I appreciated when I first suggested the idea, "tool pool" schemes have been discussed and rejected in the past. However, this is a special case, I feel, because it's not something many members would ever shell out for themselves, so this is our only option if we want a real Tech2 available to us at sensible prices.

The first issue is that some members will be happy to contribute, some won't, and suddenly we have 2 tiers of members, paid, and unpaid, which is something we have strived to avoid.

I guess we could have 2 scales of charging for Tech2 work to reflect this, and consider the Tech 2 separate to the forum. Or we could consider the contributions a donation to the Forum funds and treat all members equally regardless of whether they contributed.

The second issue is where it is located. It's the type of thing you need as a diagnostic aid when you get a problem so it's not going to be much use if it's at the other end of the country. It could be present at all the meets, of course, but that's not normally when you get a problem, although routine work could be done then.

It's too valuable to be sent around the country at random, IMHO. I guess we could nominate custodians in various areas and rotate the location among the custodians so everyone gets a Tech 2 close to them for a proportion of the time, hand carrying the unit whenever it moves.

I guess an idea of the numbers involved would help, too. How many members would contribute and how much?

Maybe this weekend will provide a good opportunity to discuss the possibilities?

Now this is a off the cuff idea which will be blown out of the water stright way but.

How about if the forum had some ads on it and they would pay for the Tech2 in no time at all

I know the Admins dont want ads but this may be a way of buying the Tech2

Just a suggestion dont blow me out of the water to far lol

how about a raffle, £50 a ticket.  Just need 60 people to realise they could own it for the price of 1 trip to the dealer....

That would get you £3000, prob not too far off?

So it's a wind up? Or, worse, maybe it's not.

Jaime is conspicuous by his failure to confirm or deny anything other than Tech2 for sale...  :-/

As far as funds to buy it for the forum, if it were able to reprogram a 2.2 main ECU for me, then there is a sizeable contribution from me awaiting collection.

Anyway, Tech 2 aside, I went to South Africa last year.

It's a bl00dy long way away!  :o

I reckon if Jaime were to pack up the server, take it to S.A. and then commission it there'd be over 24 hours down time!  :o :o :o

I only hope he gives us enough warning to get some Valium prescribed. Or do they do patches for Forum dependency these days?

 ;D  ;)

What do you mean by 'reprogramming' the 2.2 ECU?
