Advice on this please
« on: 11 September 2011, 11:44:49 »

I'm thinking of buying one of these for the caravan:-

Would a top quality cordless wrench be powerful enough to use to wind it up and down?

Caravan is approx 1400kgs.

Never used one Barry, but I've always had enough lift using the ordinary yellow plastic ramp.  :y :y

As for using a cordless wrench, depends on the pitch of the lifting thread.  ;)

It's a very slow thread, comes with a short rachet & extension bar.

I've got one-you'll want a very powerful drill to operate it!

I've got a socket on a ratchet and it is hard work and quite slow!

Good for levelling though!

That's what I've heard.

Yet their adv. says levelling in seconds - can't see it myself.

Excuse my ignorance & being a "vanner" i'm not taking the proverbial but what exactly is it for?

Is it for parking the van on an incline/gradient too steep for the legs to compensate?

It's used for leveling the van by jacking up one wheel (without removing the wheel), as the legs are steadies, and mustn't be used for jacking.

Last time I used it it took around 10 mins to lift the van about 5 inches-Superman must have tested it for them if it takes seconds.

For a caravan or motorhome, will lift 1000kgs, so yes, it would lift one corner of a car with 13" to 16" wheels.

Would be interesting to test one with your wrench.
