We may have upset our daughter...

iPod Nano's don't like a 40 degree wash and 1200 spin.

 :'( :'( :'( :'(

We'll buy her a replacement. She'll probably push for an iPod Touch, though... :( :-[ :-X

Who didn't empty the pockets before it went in the laundry basket?

There is a chance if you dry it out quickly and without turning it on, best is to open it up (search the web for how-to's) and put it on a warm radiator for a day.  Then charge it up and see what happens.  Sometimes it will work again.

If it's broken it is not worth repairing as the cost of a replacement board outweighs the cost of a second hand working Nano.

This may sound strange, but a friend told me one way to dry electrical items dropped into water was to open up the case and stick in a bowl of dry rice. Aparently rice draws out the moisture. Whether it'll work on a mobile or not I don't know.

Thanks guys.  :y

I've put it in a ZipLock bag with a load of rice, so fingers crossed. I was unable to open it up as even my "watchmakers" screwdivers were too big for the incredibly tiny screws. Looking at the comments beneath a dismantling video on YouTube, it seems others have successfuly restored their iPods after similar misfortune.

On a side note: I typed in "how to dismantle" in the Google search bar and before typing in iPod, it came up (as usual) with a list of suggestions. Top of the list? "How to dismantle an atomic bomb".  :o :o ;) :D ;D

It does work, it draws the moisture out a treat.  What is not certain, is that it will ever work again, if it is goosed, it will just be dry and goosed   :(
I assume it is out of warranty, otherwise, the bit of paper in the headphone socket that turns red when it gets wet, could accidently get bleached back to white and sent off for repair ;)

The best remedy is to wash in alcohol or distilled water to rinse away any salts, etc. that might form conductive paths on the PCB, warm it up then chuck it in a bell jar and draw down a vacuum. Any remaining moisture will boil off. So, she needs to take it in to school and spend a few hours in the science lab. ;)

Then again, it needs to be opened up, really, and, because it's got an internal battery, I suspect electrolysis will already have made a mess of the insides. :'(

My misses never checks pockets >:(

She washed my flippn' teeth at the campsite a few weeks ago. They were in my shirt pocket ;D When she got back to the caravan, I asked if she had checked the pockets. So she went back and found them laying in the bottom of the tumble dryer. :)
They tasted of Persil for bloody ages after ;D
I must admit I do chuckle when I think that someone else may have chucked their washing in the drier, then scooped up my teeth and took them back to their caravan ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
