Oh, no. What have I done?

Just bought a new Meega, that's what.

It's a 2.6V6 CD auto in metallic grey with dark leather upholstery. It's done 18k miles only and I got it for at least a grand less than book. As I had contacted the dealer when he first advertised it (and before he took he removed the advert), he honoured the original price, but told me that he was hoping I wouldn't buy it as he would put it up for a grand more if he re-advertised. Very nice bloke, actually, not your usual motor trade type.  :y

It got a new MoT two days ago, has a brand new battery, new key fob, and an interior which is absolutely pristine.

Downside: It's a repo job and the car has been mysteriously laid up for some time. (Don't worry about the HPI, that's all being sorted). There are literally cobwebs in the engine bay :o and the scuttle drain holes are filled to overflowing with old leaves. The fluids are all fine.

There was dent in the boot, but the dealer has got it repaired very well - all but unnoticeable - except the muppets stuck a 2.2 badge on it! (Shall I change it or leave it as a wolf in sheep's clothing, I wonder?  ::))

Pics and more details to follow when I pick it up midweek.

My old 1995 Meega is up for disposal. Again, more details to follow.

Being laid up is no big deal.

Good clean, change ALL the fluids (brakes could be scary until you do!) and some short oil changes should see it all good.

Thanks, Dave, just what I thought.

BTW, is a cambelt change that urgent? I know one should always be cautious, but would the factory-fitted tensioner or belt have suffered that much from a laid-up period?

Cambelt would probably be ok for a little while, but having just nabbed a bargain, I would not want to ruin it by having the tensioner fail!

That's what I thought, Steve. Best of all, SWMBO gave it the thumbs up.  :) :) :y  She hated the CDX we viewed last week. Looked good from the outside, but the interior looked like it'd been used for agricultural purposes. I got the hump then, but in retrospect she was called it correctly. Don't you just hate it when they're right?  ;D ;D ;D
