I conceded and allowed the honourable Laidback top lend a VERy big hand today. We had a considerable wait while the promised engine didn't arrive. hoist ready, us ready. no engine.

Then after an ear bending to matey with said engine, he finally dropped it off.

We chnaged all the cut hoses whilst we had acces to the back, then  the entire loom changed over. then a gentle hoist intop the air, push, lower a bit, push a bit more and ....er job done. 20 mins.

Ok, so that is just the engine in, gearbox still to mate up, then ALL the wiring loom to sort and resolder cut wires for the LPG. Then DEFINITELY rocker gaskets and most likely cambelt and water pump as well as a normal service/oil & filters etc.

So, another week yet.

HUGE ta-very-much-like to Dave, who came around in his new toy. I must say that must be bargain of the year. ! VERY cheap facelift + 1 oil cooler = HUGE profit for him. Good business mate.

Good to hear that you were messing about doing not very much while everyone else got down to the serious business of relaxing and drinking beer.   :y

I can confirm this was an EXTREMELY cheap facelift... almost as much as a bargain as the LPG estate...

Not at all. :)

The challenging bit is connecting all the wiring, mating up the gearbox and exhaust and then getting the damn thing to start!  ;D

Did you do the timing belt, exhaust manifold gaskets and cam cover gaskets before it went in?

What type of oil filter did the replacement have?

Hey I was just the labourer!  ;D

I think he is planning to do timing belt and cam cover gaskets in situ.

I think the answer is "they are in the  schedule of works for completion at a later date" ;)

As this is a brand new factory replacement engine, the ansewr is no.



Ok, so it looks like an old oily leakiy engine, but that is just clever 'aging'.

NO, didn't do any of that. Cambelt I would rather do in situ. rocker gaskets need doing, but I didn't have time on Sunday because the engine arrived 5 hours late! I didn't fancy putting that engine crane up again, or hoping Dave passed by on Monday!

PLUS I had my new corsa CDTi to fix :( which I did today. Newq hub, shoes and drop links. Boooooooo!


Wiring for the Elite is a foddle. So is plumbing. Cambelt a sinch, water pump ditto. BUT I am doing nothing until I hear this mother running. THEN and only then will I strip down for the cambelt and rocker gaskets. Then, the LPG, then finally the rest!

Aye... the rockers and cambelt are fine to do in situ... I would have done the manifolds while out though  :)

Well, you weren't here were you. I was and so was Dave. The engine arrived at about 3pm. We then had to get it in the car. There was no time to faff around with airy fairy sodding gaskets, that may not even need doing. There is no way I was leaving the engine out overnight and I also had my work car to fix, which as it turned out meant I had to cancel todays lessons and a driving test.

I was not and am not interested in doing manifold gaskets just because they are there. I could have painted the covers pink too, but decided not to do that either.

There. Told.

Yeah, you too James. And just when would I have put the engine in then?
