I've been offered a 2.5 1999 Vectra CDX Estate with full leather and a manual box for £100, the car has a genuine 51,000 miles on it but I don't know if its worth having and the reason being is its not moved for over 4 years. Its going to need 4 tyres, discs and pads all round possibly hand brake shoes, the clutch could be siezed and it will need a cambelt kit and a good service as well as all the bird doodoo and tree sap removing. Whats it going to be worth when its done?

dont forget coolant will have turned acidic as well after that amount of time, also bottom end of engine if the oil wasnt new before it was laid up will be full of contaminants and also acidic, will have damaged big end shells if it hasnt been turned at all, best way to my thinking wouold be to fire it up in situ, and see how it runs, if ok maybe worth it if it dont fire up walk away!!

Its my brother in laws car, it failed its MOT on front discs and pds so he parked it up and bought a new one

Servicing will have been none existant and any oil he has topped it up with will have been B&Qs finest

I'd say, grab it mate. They are generally good cars, and with your great knowledge of migs, this is going to be an easy one for you to sort out and get on the road

dont sound hopeful then!! was it in garage or just left in the open? think i wuld leave it to be honest!! unless scrap value is more than a oner!!!

I'd say, grab it mate. They are generally good cars, and with your great knowledge of migs, this is going to be an easy one for you to sort out and get on the road 

Don't suppose there's any harm in going over there with a gallon of fresh petrol and a charged battery, think I might change the oil before trying to start it as well

Exactly ... that's how you do it. I'd also say that before you fire it up, it would be a good idea to turn the engine over by hand a couple of times just to make sure that it does turn and that there's no damage done if there's any issue when you fire it up

Ideally I would take the plugs out and tip a little oil into the bores and maybe even do the same with the cam covers,it will all be bone dry.Then turn it over by hand a couple of turns so that if a ring is a bit sticky it doesnt break when the starter suddenly whizzes it round.Oil change would be a must.If any petrol was left in it,it will have gone manky so will need draining before putting fresh juice in.And of course the dreaded rust.Cars which have been stood seem to rust around the lower bodywork quickly ime.

Agreed, I Did all of that, some years ago, when I acquired an old Bedford Ambulance that had be stood for some years, once running it needed a sidelight bulb to pass it's test....

I went yesterday to take a look, took some petrol and battery and some oil ended up getting home about 11.30 this morning with a very bad head. I had a little look around the car this morning and it looks mint, not a mark on it so I will have to go back tomorrow and see if it will run

not worth a great deal as a complete car sell the leather on ebay & scrap the shell

GSi Vectras a the ones that are worth good money

Vectra V6 isnt as good as the omega V6 lots of stupid problems with it that the Omega doesnt suffer from ie clutch failure due to camcovers blowing the rear crankseals
