Cars for sale
« on: 08 November 2009, 11:32:25 »

Just an observation after looking through the cars for sale section here. Another car forum I go on has a cars for sale section, just like this one.
They have a requirement that ads should have a certain format, or it gets pulled.
That is basic info like model, mileage, T & T, location and description and condition of car and a firm price. And most important pics pics pics. Ok they can sometimes look good on pics, infact better that they are. But let's be honest who would travel a long distance on a vague ad without pics and decent description at least.
Sold two cars recently on said forum both sold within two days..........because I put the effort in to start with.
I would have put the cars up for sale here but they were not Omegas.

What do others think, fair comment.

Yep, fair comment.

I think the way an ad is put together says as much about the seller as it does the car.....

One particular recent advert immediately springs to mind where the ad was not only brief, with a poor quality single photo, but the sellers attitude left alot to be desired when more info/pics were requested......

I also believe anyone using this site JUST and PURELY to advertise cars for sale shouldnt be allowed to do so.....

Which is why there is 250? post count requirement, usually gets rid of most.

Its a good idea, its pointless trying to sell you car with just 1 line of text.

I also think that the 101 comments that people post on advert threads should be stopped, if people want to buy the car they will, if they don't they won't.

This is a forum, if someone feels a point should be made, let them i think.

If a seller wants zero comments, then place an ad in the paper or something.

So what's wrong with general chat for that?

General chat is not a for sale section, no need to duplicate threads

Just seems to me that the certain few seem to love slagging off most of the for sale cars.

If they are too expensive for the person who slags them off why comment? They were never intending to buy them.

Bit like the toddler who wants to steal the other toddlers toy but doesn't actually want to play with it.

We do try to keep the sales threads tidy and relevant but, sometimes, we are unable to prevent things kind of going off at a tangent.

As to preset format, etc...  Fair comment however I for one think that the other comments as regards info/pics to be more relevant.  If the seller wants to put a bit of time in and set up a decent add, then fair play to them.  The one liners with a fuzzy pic gets no interest from buyers, imo.

Agreed Andy. It P's me off when someone's trying to sell their car & all that some on here can do is bring it down for what ever reasons. If you're not interested in buying & your not asked for an oppinion, then butt out. All positive comments are different for obvious reasons & are a good thing.
So what if they've over priced their car, they'll more than likely won't get any buyers (at least they've tried). Not all member's are as up to date with car prices like other's like to think they are.
It's true that a car ad needs pics. I recall the days of old when all ads had no picture, you'd phone up the seller & they'd tell you the cars the best there is, but when you get there it's a pile of rust. You can't see for sure the cars a cracker by the pics, but they help along with the presentation of the ad.

Oictures can be useful but they don't tell the whole story. I have recently viewed two cars in seperate dealers but had pictures posted on autotrader and both where utter rubbish in the flesh for the price they where asking.

Never again will I travel to view a car.

In reply 5 I made more or less the same observations this morning.

Also, (but nothing at all to do with the link above) the slagging off of cars.)  Sometimes it happens, but normally that is when there is a lack of info, pictures or replies or the seller is being a tad unrealistic  ::)

Allthough I dont agree with it, I have to agree it's a forum and sometimes there has been situations where sales for parts and cars have occasionally got out of hand.

Maybe a template as a sticky could be made up, then car sales only remain for sale if they have been filled in according to the template.

I only tend to forward my opinions on cars and pricing when the seller invites members to do so....

Nothing wrong with that !!!!

And anyway, the very word FORUM by definition is......

forum (plural forums or fora)

1.A place for discussion.
2.A gathering for the purpose of discussion.
3.A form of discussion involving a panel of presenters and often participation by members of the audience.
4.An Internet message board where users can post messages regarding one or more topics of discussion

So if we are not allowed to express opinions this ceases to be a forum.....
