LPG and Insurance.
« on: 25 November 2009, 16:35:32 »

I just got off the phone to my insurers, Liverpool Victoria to tell them re the change to the vehicle. I said it was now dual fuel, converted to run on LPG, and I had the full safety check report. They were quite happy, didn't want to see any paperwork, updated the policy, no increase and that's it.

It seems more and more companies are getting  switched on to LPG and don't mind provided its safe. Either that or they don't want to loose the business.

As I'm considering 'going bi' in the new Year (steady.............), I find it quite amazing that your insurers don't want to see any paperwork!

DVLA wanted to see paperwork, but once they recategorised the car as "dual fuel" on the database the insurers were not interested... they go by the DVLA database.

Which is exactly why, given insurance company's habit of moving the goal posts and blind incompence, i insisted direct line sent me confirmation in writing via email and printed it off as proof!

Should be ok provided the Mrs has stopped using that cheapo invisible ink in the printer. ;D

No, LV are quite professional here, a replacement certificate will be with me in a few days. They seem pretty good, well sorted out. I had a broken rear windscreen when some S*** in  bradford decided to express his feelings, I contacted autoglass and it was taken care of , all automatic. Shame AG made a mess of changing the window  :'( :'( :'(

GNU was insured through Direct Line and they were happy that the car was registered as "Dual Fuel".  I explained that I didn't have the original installation certificate and they said as DVLA must have seen it when changing the details they were happy.

Surely it's no business of DVLA to see a safety report for your LPG?

Example - I put a bigger engine in my  car - tell DVLA - do they need to see a safety report for this? Or just evidence of the new engine size?

Sending them a reciept for the LPG kit itself, should be enough, IMO.

Soon, it will only be legal for "qualified" mechanics to work on cars - in the same way only a qualified electrician can do certain things - etc etc....
