rocker cover
« on: 29 November 2009, 01:31:39 »

After trauling through forum after forum about the oil leak from the rocker cover, many people have said it has been fixed but after a couple of months the leak has appeared again. i know this is a common fault with this engine. my question is, is it worth just cleaning up the oil from were it spills on the engine every now and then and topping up the oil. ovisually when it gets really bad it will need changing, it just seems a wast of money having to replace the rocker cover all the time for a small oil leak. pain in the neck to keep cleaning but all i get with the oil leak is some some smoke were the oil burns on the engine, every time i clean it off its ok for a while......

Check your breathers are clear. They are generally the cause of excess pressure which finds  its way out via the rocker/cam covers!  :y

If the leak isnt fixed it will wreck the HT leads and Dispack after a while.Best course of action is to have the rocker gaskets replaced.Have the breather sytem cleaned,as it is excessive pressure from blocked breathers which causes the leak in the first place and then change the oil every 4-5,000 miles which will go a long way to ensuring the breathers dont become blocked again. :y
P.S If you get yourself a trade club card an oil and filter change with genuine oil /filter will cost about a tenner. :y

I think the best thing to do is get or do the cam cover gaskets properly. Once done, so long as you service the car you shouldn't have any problems for a long time.
