Ford Probe V6 engine fault
« on: 13 November 2009, 21:08:54 »

Just been talking to a bloke at work who has one of these. He has had it a few years and it has had the same fault. When accellerating there is a brief hesitation, like a misfire or interruption of fuel :-/ he has tried quite a few things but the only thing which reduces the symptoms is to use high octane petrol. It doesnt throw up any fault codes. He has enquired at the relevant forum, but not had much success. ::) I told him that the Omega forum is so good that I wouldnt be surprised if I could get a few sensible suggestions for him. ;)

Just an idea, but maybe a remap of the ECU chip could help overcome this?  :-/

Thanks. :y.........MAF makes sense imo, especially as he has an aftermarket filter which requires oil to be sprayed on it from time to time. ::) If it gets cured I will report back. :y

I THINK THAT YOU VAUXHALL OWNERS ARE ONLY HALF RIGHT!

The Ford Probe is built by Mazda at a Mazda plant. The only thing Ford about the Probe is the Badge saying Ford!

The car is based on the Mazda MX-6 and comes in a 206 BHP GT version.
The Probe comes standard with leather seats, cruse control, central locking, Air con, electric seats, twin bag srs, ABS, electric mirrors, electric sunroof, tilt and slide steering wheel, disc brakes all round, Electric windows , pop-up headlamps, Coupe body and the boot is bigger than the Omega. All this on a 1995 car. Way ahead of its time.

I have owned an Omega and for the two years that i owned it, the car spent more time off the road than on it.
Head gasket problems, water pump. Gearbox faults. Master cylinder failed in Kent on Detling Hill. Snapped propshaft on the M4. EPS failed on Holiday. The list was endless.
Mind you, i guess 43k is quite a lot for a nasty GM spin off. It was a bag of crap.
Just think, the probe may be the Mazda MX-6's brother, but the brother of the Omega is the chevrolet lacetti...lol

My probe i have had for the last 5 years. It has just turned 100k and passed its MOT this week with out even a Advisory. I have not had a days problem with the car and its Bloody fast and better on fuel.

Give me Jap than Yank any-day.

Just got email back from friend with a Mazda MX6. He agrees with MAF diagnosis. Cause momentary hesitation before car picks up. Worth a look as cheap to replace.
