How much is it worth?
« on: 23 December 2009, 14:58:18 »

It looks like I might be selling my car.:( I really don't want to but realistically I am not going to have the money to spend on it for the next 12 months and I don't want it to just rot away on the drive.

It's a 98 S reg 3.0 MV6 manual (not ex plod) in Silver. It's done just over 100k miles. It has full leather recaro interior.

Now for the but (and its a big but), the head gasket has gone. I have stripped the heads off and I have some of the parts needed to fix it but there are some still to buy. Once this is fixed it will need some further work to make it perfect including attention to paint where some scrote has keyed it.

So what is it worth? Like I said I really don't want to part with it because I love it and I know how hard it is to find a 3.0 manual, but equally I don't want it to just rot away and I have no garage to store it in.

With the engine in bits, I'm afraid very little  :'(.  I think Tunnie's estimations would be impressive to get even halfway towards...

The problems with non-runners is that the potential buyer can not drive the car so essentially from his point of view he is buying it blind - is the engine bottom end good? Is the gearbox OK? Do the brakes work? Is the exhaust blowing? And what about the suspension? He would only have your assurances, and sadly this is not enough when buying a car... so the risk would be considered far too high. It is far easier to sell a running car even if it is not perfect, because the buyer can check and know exactly which bits are bad and which are OK. But with a non-runner the buyer must assume the worst...  :(
