The old girl made it...
« on: 22 December 2009, 10:16:31 »

Well we are now in Lodz, Poland and the Omega has been faultless across 980 miles in heavy snow, black ice and -17 degrees.

Only problem was Morrisons screenwash freezing solid even though rated -30 and used neat.

Spent 87EUR in German service station on fuel, screenwash and coffees then they refused us hot water and charged my wife 1EUR for a cup of hot water-same as coffee.  I went in and explained in German and they refused again, so I just fetched the watering car and used a cup to fill it with hot water in the toilets.  I then had a full on fight with the attendant who tried to take the can off me-NO chance of that.  My 58" chest and 24 stone soon flattened the tw#t.  Needless to say, I got my hot water and sorted the screenwash.

All is well.  I had typed a longer story but Polish pc crashed-will update soon.

Keep safe!

Well done sir, all that time you spent fixing and servicing things has been worth it. Th  attitude of the service station seems a bit grabbing, makes UK stations look quite good.

Cheers Martyn

A pleasant day here, with snow in Rajdowa.  Just been to Carrefour to finally see the live carp in the paddling pool with the huge queue to buy them ready to put in the bath for a few days ready to eat at Christmas.
When my wife first told me about this I thought she was joking..

I was impressed by the Omega starting in Berlin in -13 with a 4" covering of snow-we had a day off there and it was left in an exposed spot for 36 hours and no problems  :y

Have a great time-at least you have turkey  ;D

At first I was surprised, then angry at the 1EUR for a cup of water after spending 87EUR, then raging at their attitude so the guy got his comeuppance when he tried to grab the can off me and got flattened.  Still, got it fixed.
Danke fur nicht, du scheisse!

Unbelievable-would not happen in UK  :o

If anyones was interested it was the last Shell station before the Polish border on the Berlin-Poznan road.

Yeah, will do-we had an 18mth old child in the car and the conditions were atrocious, so not giving us a little hot water to enable us to see was unforgivable-especially as we had spent 87EUR, explained the situation and bought their 18EUR best screenwash too.

Ridiculous and dangerous-we will send a starchy letter to Shell Germany on our return.  Unforgivable  :(

In the meantime, we will boycott Shell.

Glad everything going well.
Sounds like you've been through worse weather than we seem able to cope with here.
Merry Christmas ;)

Mmmmmm.  Opposite ends of the scale-England often goes into a spin at the first snowfall, Germans still do 140mph on the 'bahns in -17.  Not sure which is better....

Saying that though, we had a clear run through the snow to Harwich last Friday with a truly massive number of people clearing and policing the roads-hugely impressive.
Well done Highways Agency and Police :y

Happy Christmas  ;)

Not impressed with the german hospitality...or lack of it. Enjoy the rest of your trip.

It's BP here that I won't use after being informed by one that it's against company policy to provide toilet facilities for customers.

Afraid my German is very very rusty. Basically I've never really used it since 1992. Did you learn your German in the UK or Poland?
