you plead poverty via your solicitor and the clerk of the court takes it into consideration an then recommends to the 3 wise monkeys..sorry magistrates wot course of action to take you are only supposed to use it once in your lifetime but if the court dont put it on your record then if your solictor notice it he/she trys it again an like in my case walsall daye put it on record so she used it again at warley magistrate i learnt my lesson then not put my hard earned money into pc plods coffers...but it must of been exceptional circumstances for that person to keep their licence...

One of my brothers kept his licence after being caught at 3 digit speeds on A11 one evening - his (then) boss (a well known figure in motorsport) said in court how a licence was essential to my brother, and helped keep UK at the forefront in the sport.

So, it seems, if your boss is prepared to go to court and give a bit of billy bull, you can keep it.

He ended up with loadsa points and a huge fine, but was still allowed to drive...

I think most of us will agree, if a vehicle is capable of such speeds and the conditions are suitable, that it's not really an issue, "That speed thing!"  I have an aquantance who purchaced a Jaguar XK220, brought it down the M6 to Stoke @ 180 mph...  No problems, safe conditions, straight empty road!   On the Sunday a week later, he wrapped it around a lamp post @ 30 mph....   As I say, horses for courses....

When I taxed my car online last week; all I had to do was supply their reference number (&  payment details) yet I had to go to a police station & produce the relevant documents. I thought the police had this information?

we do but can only use it for certain reasons... dont know why you were geven a hort/1 if it was for an accident then we are not allowed to put the insurance details from the PNC onto the accident report as Experien (the poeple who supply the insurance database) state it should only be used for investigation into whether the perosn/vehicle is insured.

Its all about data protection

As a rule a normal stop check for no seatbelt or whatever should'nt result in you having to go to the police station to produce the documents because we can check everything now... Driving licence/insurance/MOT and tax.

I am just waiting for the damn thing to tell me the bra size of the ladies i stop!

how long have the police been able to access the data? is it only traffic cops that do this?

Only asking because I was stopped by a regular beat car for driving "a bit too quickly" and I was given a producer, took my documents into the local "nick" the following day, but this was in november 2005...

Last time i got stopped it was by traffic, coz according to them i wasnt showing as having insurance.....they did ask had i recently bought the car...answer yes 2 weeks ago...and i pointed out the taxi plate attached to rear of the car meant i had insurance.....coz the council wont issue a plate without seeing valid insurance doc and mot.
Still got a producer for mot and insurance  >:(

When i did produce next day.....i said to desk civilian, bit of waste of time really isnt it as its a licensed taxi.....answer was ummm is really!
