Strange!
« on: 26 January 2010, 07:05:19 »

Started the car yesterday morn.

Sounded like a traction engine.

Switched off, diagnostics said missfire on No. 3 cylinder.

Checked the plug wells for oil/water - all totally clear.

Put it back together again.

Sweet as a bird.

Once it's raised a misfire code it will cut the injector on that cylinder to protect the cat. As to why it decided that pot was misfiring - Hmm. :-/

Does it ever miss on startup?

Never misses a beat normally, even on a cold start.

did you take the plugs out? Only time i had a miss-fire was when a plug destroyed itself, did as you describe, stop and start would be fine, but it then started mis-firing when on idle, then never stopped  ;D

When i took the plug out both electrodes were missing  :o

I'd see if one of the electrodes is about to fail....

Yep. Well worth checking the plugs just in case.

Highly unlikely unless you've got a dud, I'd say.

I would also try wiggling the connections to the coil pack and injectors while it's running, just in case something's loose, although I would expect the ECU to have stored an additional code if anything went open-circuit.

Strange, as you say. An aptly named thread. ;)

Plugs 'look' fine.

Coil pack also 'looks' fine.

Hasn't missed a beat since.

Only code that came up was the missfire one.
