A man falls down a 50 foot well

Each day (he's a lazy bugger) he climbs 2 feet but then slides back down 1 foot at night

How many days does it take him to climb out?

So for imperial measurments but i'm an old fashioned kinda guy

50 days...but he dies after about 10 with no food or water

Maybe thats why he's so slow he has a huge ruck sack full of food and water just in case he fell down a well, unfortunately its not 50,

That cant be right. On day 50 he climbs to the height of 51 feet, so he is clear of the well. He would not spend another night, too slip back 1 ft when he has already cleared it by 1ft on day 50.

During each day he is always 1 ft ahead of the day he is on, it is only at night when he loses 1ft. On day 49 he makes it to 50ft but then slips to 49ft, so on day 50 he climbs 2ft taking him to 51ft and clear.

I thought on day 49 he makes the 50ft so he can get out.

But he can only climb 2ft in the day, so would not be able to climb the last 1ft out until day 50 by which time he had lost 1ft.
