Mercedes keys.
« on: 14 February 2010, 16:42:39 »

The Merc I bought only came with one key.I was planning to buy a second key from fleabay and have it programmed. Found out today that although this can be done it only programmes the key to lock/unlock the doors. If you want a key which will start the car it has to come from Mercedes at a cost of over £200. :o :o..........and we moan about VX.  ::)

SAAB has one of those electronic thingys, got a recipt for a replacement key that it had before I think thats 300 and something quid  :o I wouldn't mind why not just use a normal key.

Theres a normal key pops out of the bottom of that, same with the merc too it's stupid.

Similar setup to Mercedes, I had to put a new wiper motor on it last week which wasnt cheap, now this.I think we may be parting company pretty soon. Back to the LPG on a big cruiser methinks.

i'm told it shouldnt cost that much, 100 150 should cover it depending on year and chassis number, that it must be dealer sourced as you say, and that the old key codes should be erased and a consecutive key ordered, not a duplicate.(car stores 8 key numbers iiuc, your key and the new one stored and any not present should be deleted, obviously) but the dealer will know all this...the ebay thing simply doesn't work.

still bloody steep though as you say...
