Two journeys

- Exactly the same route

- Same car

- Exact same load in the car

- Similar temperatures

The only difference was the speed:

- Eco-driving style - 38mph average - 29.3 mpg

- Spirited drive - 65mph average - 28.6 mpg

How often were you in top gear when averaging just 38 mph compared with when you were avaeraging 65 mph?

No real surprise to me... I find an indicated 75 seems to give the best compromise between making good progress and economy :y :y

I find that between 70 - 80 gives me the worst, on both my omegas  :-/

I think the most economical driving speeds are 50-60, the lower speeds tax the engine a little more and therefore less economical, similarly the higher speeds tend to be less economical...

The best economy on mine was when the EGR pipe ruptured, which kept my speed down to around 50mph and returned mid 40's economy, however, that was also with gentle acceleration, keeping the turbo usage to a minimum...
