Nexen tyres.
« on: 27 February 2010, 21:32:58 »

Anyone use or know about Nexen tyres? Need a couple for the rear of my Elite. Checked them today and they are just about legal. Had two new tyres fitted to the front when i had a geometry check and adjustment a couple of weeks ago which cost me £95 each. Been shopping around on tinternet for something cheaper for the rears and came across Nexen`s for £65. Got MOT due in a months time and getting things checked/changed that i think it may fail on. ( No i havn`t got an air freshner dangling from my rear view mirror before anyone mentions it !!  :D )

Heard mixed reviews to be honest, I think I had them on a Volvo T5, great in the dry but awful in the wet, but that used to go through tyres in around 8k miles so, I'm probably not the best judge for these  ;D

Cheers Del. All views taken on board about them. Iv`e not heard of them before as i usually fit Avon, Michelin etc. but cash tight for a while and looking for a good mid range tyre that a tyre centre near me will have in stock. I saw that a local tyre centre had these Nexen`s and they seemed a reasonable price.

£50 a corner, in Hertfordshire so not far from you, everyone on the SAAB forum can't recommend these tyres highly enough, great in the dry and wet apparently. Hope this helps  :y

Tyres are a personal thing, me, I like Toyos...

But back to your question Rob Nexens, they are quiet a good tyre for the money in my opinion, had a set on Mrs. Loo-knee's car and they were fine :y

Accelera Alpha's are pretty good too... I've had them on for 2 years and 40k now (not the same set unfortunately) and have been pretty pleased... Have to really push the boundaries of sensible driving to get a hint of them letting go, wet or dry TBH :y :y

I have used Nexens for the past 4 years on various cars - they were recommended by my local tyre guy who is a family friend and I have to say that they are very good - I had the N3000 variant and they are quiet, grippy and look good - my only negative comment is that the N3000's do seem to wear quite quickly - I get about 12,000 miles and consider myself to be a "normal" driver ( I don't drive like a police pursuit driver!) of course it could all be down to the compound of the N3000 but it's worth mentioning.

Overall I think they are good - especially at that price Del has linked to  :y I may just buy 4 and stick them in the shed :)

I have used them for about four years. Before that used Pirellis. Can't say i have noticed any difference but with an average speed of 23mph for 4 years I am not exactly Mike Schumacher!

Had Nexens (N3000 IIRC) initially on my first Omega, they were fine in the dry but not quite so reassuring in the wet.

I had these on my Vectra. The noise they made after 8000 miles was just like a worn wheel bearing. They had gone hard and mishapen. I only found it was the tyres after two wheel bearings though! The second set did the same, but the fronts are fine, if not the good in the wet. Never, ever wear out though!

I have Nexens on my 3.2.  They have been fine. Done 22k and still plenty of tread left.

Is the £65 incl fitting?  Sounds good to me - wherabouts is that from?
