« on: 17 March 2010, 18:26:01 »

have had this car 6years now & when ordering a oil filter it should be the one that goes up to engine No 34398417 yet the bore is not right, too small. any opinions appreciated of why this situ arises.

So is this the one you have used
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vauxhall-OMEGA-DIESEL-OIL-FILTER-2-5-TD-NEW-ELEMENT_W0QQitemZ370112630909QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item562c6e907d
This is the one I use, fits perfectly.
Must add though it does state on the listing from 34408417 onwards.
Has your's got the large plastic filter cap, with the 36mm hex nut on it?

Metal-topped oil filter housing is on the U25DT engine. (Earlier cars).

Plastic-topped housing is on X25DT engine. (Later cars).
The Fram part number being: CH5979ECO

And don't attempt to source an X25DT one from Halfrauds - their 'knowledgeable' staff (and catalogue) claims that the X25DT engine doesn't exist!

x25dt & engine No30279027 plastic 36mm cover, but whenever i quote reg or engine No the bore is  too small. i will try to measure the tubes bore which filter fits over in the morning. part No,s up to engine 34398417 - 93180820 (which should be mine) then from engine No34408417- is 93180093 or so i was informed today. :y

update, having measured the size of that tube which filter. slides on to is a tight 28mm. now a filter with the same bore is too tight. does a filter normally sit tight onto that tube or is there a gap as there is when i use the other filter? :-/ :y

The filter itself fits snugly onto a boss in the base of the housing.

I've had a similar argument with VX.  My engine number was lower than the claimed changeover in filter types for the X25DT.  I'd sent the missus in to pick the filter up, so she just believed them.  I had to take it back and spent 10 minutes arguing that I'd changed the filter three times already, and this certainly wasn't the one that fits, and I don't care what the computer says...

All X25DTs have the newer plastic cap, and thus newer filter.  All U25DTs have the metal cap, thus older filter.

All assuming nobody has changed the filter housing.
