3.0 Manual Estate .. TOO ECONOMICAL!
« on: 24 June 2007, 21:22:55 »

What sort of MPG should I get from this car?

I am getting around 40mpg on a motorway run, late 30's combined with A roads - and 31mpg on local runs.

Does the manual box really make it that much mroe economical?? It's using half the bloody fuel the Auto Elite does!!

I'm also enjoying the control over what gear it's using.. this may be a keeper..

That was my thoughts at first.. but these figures are relative to the amount of fuel I'm putting in!!

The Best Way To check james against the Computer is Fill Her Up do 100 miles Refill and Work Out the MPG

I cant See a Manual 3.0l getting as good as that If you are I would check to see if its running Lean or you have one cracking Car running on Air :)

I will do the test, but... it really is much more economical than my Auto...

Plus, I'm good with a manual box, despite not having had one for a couple of years!!

Well I always got around 30mpg per the MID - you DO drive like a grandad!  ;D

I thought the computer was pretty accurate - 70ltr tank (15.4 gals I think), used to brim it and then get over 400 miles before the light came on, used to only take 60ltrs (13.2 gallons) to brim again, so it's about right.

Best I saw was 35mpg on the MID on a run up the M3 and M25 (on a Sunday!) to Ruislip, but that was when the knock sensor was broken so in 'limp mode'.

Incidentally a fellow in the village who breaks 2.5TDs reckoned his 2.5TD GLS manual estate only gets 350 miles from a tank...

manuals do make a big difference, i had a 3.0 Elite Manual, was a shed but still returned very good mpg, 38 constant on the MID at 70.

Tank her up, and then do a manual calculation.

with a blowing EGR, and no back box. Your auto 3.0 is going to be a bit down on mpg......

Which one, the one between here and Halse, or one after it?  Chicken either way!

Mind you, in your 2.2 (and my tractor in the wet), I am chicken around the S bend where you walk the dog ::)

Still, I proved earlier, that a tractor can lay some serious rubber when pulling away hard - albeit in the rain with suspect tyres....

I average 25-27 MPG in mine, which I'd consider to be damn good for such a heavy 3.0 car with my driving style.  For comparison, my 840 is currently showing 16.4 MPG average on the trip computer  :o 8-).

So yes getting into the 30s doesn't seem unrealistic if driven sympathetically.

My trip computer is reading 23mpg at the moment which is mostly town driving but my Omega has a few issues, it wouldn't pull a greased stick from a dogs bum and isnt running as it should so I expect the mpg to be low :'(

My Omega is the same James. Around town it isn't brilliant (but is still acceptable) but on the motorway I get really good MPG. I put £50 in today to drive to Slough and the needle on the fuel gauge has only gone down by a mm!  :o I still have 400miles showing for Range on the computer.  :o

My Cavalier 2.5 V6 was like that. I already had a 2.0 16v which was brilliant economy, and I was worried the 2.5 would be much thirstier but amazingly it wasn't. We took it to Portugal (yes Dover to Calais then right down through France and Spain to the south of Portugal!) and she didn't miss a beat.

I have also taken an Opel Monza to Portugal on the same route. 3.0 8v engine silver GSE car manual gearbox. Can life get any better?!!! Got so many looks on the continent as nobody recognised it. The Monza has an American muscle car look in some respects. I loved it. Mine even had air conditioning! :P

Anyway I will stop waffling on now.  :y
