GTO Brakes on OMEGA/CATERA
« on: 24 June 2007, 05:13:56 »

... well the install is done here are the results...

I upgraded from the single piston Omega Brakes to the dual piston Pontiac GTO brakes and so far I love them.

The brakes work awesome and they seem like they stop way better then the OEM ones so it was well worth the money (100$):

ok enough talk here are the pictures:

OEM GTO Brakes:

After a couple coats of paint:

:y

Are the GTO pads bigger as well? Fit the same discs (rotors)?

I personally don't have an issue with the (genuine!) standard ones, but for track use or similar, I can see your upgrade being great :)

Only I suspect they will be a damn sight more expensive our side of the pond :(

i suspect prices here will be similar to Monaro discs & pads, since the Monaro is basically a GTO...

This side of the pond we would be looking at £400 per set minimum

...to be quite honest you can probably buy some calipers from the guys at the GTO FORUMS.com for about 50$ for the set and then shipping will not be more then 100$.  That shouldn't be too bad.

However if you guys can get your hands on some Monaro front brakes then these will work just as well because the GTO was born from the Monaro and if anything the calipers will be even more similar to the Omega ones....

As to the stopping it deffinetly increased since the old pad is way smaller then the new one but also the twin piston is where you get your advantage since you can provide more stopping distance.

But if anything the Guys on the GTO forums are getting theirs prepped up for sale because now that 1 has done it many will likely follow so just go on there and ask for a set and they will hook you guys up.

Also someone can go take pics of the Monaro brakes and we can compare to the GTO ones and then all you got to do is go to a junk yard and buy some...

Was thinking earlier what i might do to improve the brakes!
I mean there ok normal driving, but drive a little harder and they get really hot after a few roundabouts, smoking hot! ;D

Even in MK, I struggle to overcook the brakes....   ....change the fluid, and make sure you get the old crappy fluid out of the pistons!

I also just found out that you can use CORVETTE C5 Brake pads on these GTO Calipers and they should be even better then the GTO ones...
