What are they worth?
« on: 24 June 2007, 23:46:23 »

Thought I would ask this in Public..

I've MAYBE got the chance of buying a couple of projector headlights... that may need a bit of cleaning up, but should come up OK.

100% Trusted seller, we all know them well. Not sure what he should sell them for.. so I need to make an offer if I'm considering them.

I have no clue on their value.. so anyone care to comment?

Decent pair of projectors, with working adjusters should be around £50-£60 a pair.

If you are keeping the estate, get them, they are a significant improvement over the ones on it, especially when fitted with +50 bulbs (Osram ones are very highly rated).

The HID are the ones you get in Elite's right?

If so is it just a case of chucking the old units away and nailing on the HID,s? Or is there loads of wiring stuff to do :question

The HIDs are linked to the self levelling suspension of the Elite and you will also need headlight washers for the MOT.

Managed to get a set for my dads car paid £40 for the pair, had to repair one adjuster but they work well.

Prices vary as mine I did a reshell due to knackered adjusters and paid £30 inc postage both fixed fitted and working.

If known to be 100% straight I would have paid double for mine.

Yes.

Because of the type of light HID's are affect by dirt much more than standard Halogens, hence headlight washers are a legal requirement. It just depends how picky the MOT station is.

You will find that even slightly dirty HIDs have greatly reduced vision, for HIDs you also need the self leveling system, and a LOT of power, hence not a good modification for non HID Omega's

All correct apart from the power bit - HIDs are low power (<30W per side).

Retro fitting HIDs is grey area, but factory fit must legally have the self levelling and the washing system.  I suspect that retrofit does, though whether or not it would get picked up (the levelling might)....

I was under the impression the HID system ran at a very high current, I remember posts indicating it was dangerous to attempt repairs on the HID system, because it had enough power to kill a man?  :-/

Or am I going crazy?  ;D
