A dillema hmm
« on: 31 March 2010, 14:57:06 »

Going to Italy to visit my sister on Easter, taking the parents and my future Mrs.
Mrs wants to visit Venice, Padova etc, so will be doing at least 1000 miles.
Got two choices of transportation, my mig and fathers "Skodillac" Octavia  ;D
Mig is way better but Octavia is 1,9 tdi and the difference in petrol and consumption on 1000 mile trip will be PRETTY big.
Still not decided which car to use cause if I go with Skoda I know I'll return with broken back but with more money in the wallet.

Looking at Marks figures I would take the Miggy for the sake of £60, spend more than that on rest stops for tea and food, to ease the back pains ;D ;D ;D

When we took our 2.0 CD over to Poland a couple of years ago we were debating how to approach the driving, speed wise.....

In the end we worked out that the extra petrol costs of doing 80mph instead of 60mph were only about £15 each way for the 1250 mile run.......

Take the Mig and do 80 all the way..........!!!

I used to get about 32mpg from my 3.0l auto MV6 going from UK, down to south of France, messing around down there for 10 days, then driving back.  32mpg average over 1800 miles, including 10 days of local driving was pretty good I thought.

And the travelling was mostly 85/90mph, with the occasional 130mph blast when I'd fallen behind my mate in the other car 130kph

1000 Miles at an average of 50mph (difficult to obtain that as an average speed) = 20 hours.

The Octavia is a well accomplished car, but doesn't have the comfort of the Omega.

A difference of 30MPG over 1k miles @ £5 a gallon = £167.

I'd buy a decent, comfortable seat cover for £30 and have a night on the piss with the rest.  Also, Miggy stays clean in the Garage.
