Here you go: Scantool.net http://www.scantool.net/scantool/downloads/diagnostic-software/

Jaime reported problems with the latest version IIRC. Will have a look at what version I was last using. A bit basic but free and reads codes, views live data reliably. Good place to start IMHO.

Aye, scantool.net

I had to drop back to a previous version with the chinese ELM based lead I'd borrowed.

As an aside, chrisgixer, do you still have my vagcom lead - sure you gave it back, which means I've put it somewhere very, very safe ;D

vag cable was returned. Newent was it? left on passenger seat of silver bullet as requested by your good self. So i guess its in a safe place, same place as magnet on a stick perhaps?. ::) ;)

Seem to remember you said you needed it for father in laws car?

Baah, cant get this to work, it either freezes or says wrong com port, no com port seems agreeable, tried 4 first then 1 then all the others in turn, nout.

I asume it tells you when to plug in to the car or what ever? :-/

Currrently using v115    v120 wont load correctly all the others are forign languages :(

Have a look in  device manager to see what COM port is assigned to the cable's driver.

.. and I think it's powered from the OBDII socket so it needs to be plugged into the car for it to do much at all.

Can't recall what BAUD rate that cable defaults to. I think it's 9600 but worth trying the other options.

I had major problems getting an ELM327 to work ... 'twas always messing about with the com connection, and would NOT stay in memory, you had to do the whole set up every time.

That's why I bought the maxscan ..  :)

tried all manor of combinations... led on the box comes on when plugged in to the car as well....

Plug all in, see what port has been given by windows to the usb-serial adapter (under usb in device mgr), and use that port. Ideally, in device mgr, force to com1, then reboot.
