I've got calipers that sieze every now and again, and it's because there's a rubber boot missing on the calipers where the sliding pins emerge from the carrier.  I know this because they're missing on one caliper and in a crap state on the other.  Being rubber I'd expect these to be known to wear out and it to be possible to replace them, but I've looked all over and wondered if anyone knew of any specialist companies that are involved in caliper refurbishment that may sell individual components.

Spent two hours removing one of the sliding pins from the rear caliper on the Jag (took a lot of penetrating fluid, gas stove, angle grinder, spanners and a vice to get one of them out).  100 quid for new caliper, yet it's only the rubber bellow cover thing that's missing/knackered.

Can't remember if these even exist on the Omega brakes...

OK, it's £100, and a hundred quid is a hundred quid.  But, is it really worth all the swearing, smacking your thumb with a mallet and even more swearing for a one'er?

If the caliper is seizing to that extent, it needs replacing.

Yours and others lives are dependent on brakes working correctly.

Not a lecture I might add, but it's not exactly a re-mortgage.

thanks. - I'll give them a try.

£100 (or £200 as it would both sides, plus delivery, plus 2x£30 surcharge until they deem the old units sent back at my expense as reconditionable) may not be much in some peoples eyes but I get more and more annoyed by having to replace entire assembley's when it's only individual components that blatently cost a fraction of the price that have failed or need replaced.

Anyway - they freed up, greased and on good working order now, just need to find the dust covers somewhere.

I have used Biggred to refurbish both my front /rear brake calipers.
They do a first class job and replace all internal parts /seals and pistons and will even offer a coating service in heatreated paint.
They are a fair price but the overall finish is superb and when it comes to brakes I tend to favour a trusted source.

Good to hear a second vote of confidence in them

Not having a good weekend as far as having to replace individual components.  Dropped a glass jar yesterday and watched it bounce off my leg and into the door of the washing machine.  Washing machine door exploded.  Glass jar - 3mm thick.  Washer door - 6mm thick.  I just don't get it!?  Managed to find one of those on eb4y - people seem to strip and sell anything these days
