Internet problem

Well I keep losing my DNS resolution, if I reboot the router (BT Home Hub) it gets it back, but currently I am restricted to my HOSTS sites because I can't be bothered to reset the router again.

Any ideas

What is your PC using as its DNS host? The address of the router or the real DNS server(s) at your ISP?

Sounds like the DNS proxy on the router might be packing up every so often. Could try finding the IP addresses of the DNS servers at your ISP (your router should show these on the status page, otherwise ask your ISP) then set up your PC to use these for DNS rather than the automatic address provided by the router.

Maybe a firmware upgrade on the router is worth trying...

Or you could try hard coding the DNS server address of your ISP into the router (assuming that you have a dynamic IP and that the router picks up your IP via DHCP from the ISP).

Homehub is a PITA.

Hard code your IP details in PC, and use ISP DNS servers.

Well I got so fed up I coded a few addresses in hosts then read the restart logs of the router - got the DNS addresses from that and then put them on my network TCP/IP settings.

The hardware must be losing the details.

My wife will test today.
