I shoudl add that the going rate for one of those donks is around 300-400 tops....and I would be looking to change cambelt and water pump before fitting

Cheers. He said that water pump and cam belt would be changed, but I'm not sure that was in the £700. Any ideas on where to source one from, or is just a matter of ringing round local breakers?

Quite a few on ebay..........most breakers will supply for that sort of cash.

Remember that the Vx engine will come with oil, filterm cambelt the lot.....so the 700 quid price is not good value
