2.2 Auto towcar
« on: 15 April 2010, 18:53:34 »

Hi, does anyone tow a caravan with a 2.2 auto? If so how does it perform?

I owned a new-ish 2.2 manual some years back and it towed really well. I'm gonna pick up my new pikey wagon next weekend and was wondering what to expect from the auto.

resident burger van owner AA has one, and he tows with a 2.2, you won't win any races, but will tow without issues!

Cheers

I guess I'll find out soon enough, I'm picking the new van up in Hull and bringing it back to near Liverpool via the M62 so will prove a good test. I don't really think there will be an issue but more used to towing recently with a 3.5 Honda Legend: 208 hp down to 144 hp  ::)

If you go along the M62 from red to white rose country, HGVs use lanes 1, 2 & 3 of the up hill 4 lane section!!! Half a mph between the lot of 'em!  >:( >:( >:(

Why do they bother? Mile after mile crawl by each other doing 0.0001mph faster, turns motorway into a single carriageway  >:(

Because that 0.5mph faster makes a difference when you are doing 400 miles ;).  Oh, and there is probably tolerance differences in the speed limiters ;)

Its pikeys and Miss Daisys on the motorways/dual carriageways that get my goat up, particularly the middle lane hoggers.  And then the bmw drivers in their dedicated lane.

I liked Spains setup and what is common in Europe, no trucks can over-take during rush hour!

My 3.0 does 19-20mpg towing.

I've seen windy conditions push this down to 15mpg.

My 2.5 was around the same mpg as well.
