M4 road works, 50mph. Large stone about an inch wide, wack of the screen, appeared from nowhere and bounced down the roof and off the boot lid.  >:(

I could do with a crack in my screen  ::), it's got 161000 miles of general marks on it, and is difficult to see through in low sun.

Glass firms will happily replace a serviceable screen, as they get paid whatever. But just chip it a bit if you are concerned. :y

If i called Autoglass i know there is nothing they can do, so i guess it would cost my insurance excess?  :'(
There is no such thing as "excess" on glass cover.
You will have to fork out of your own pocket if the screen is replaced, but that can be anywhere from £25 (thats our outlay), all the way to £100 depending on who you are insured with.

Any company that tells you that a glass claim is going to affect your no claims obviously isn't as cheap as you first thought.

as i used to regularly repair cracks in screens, can tell you that it will just get longer and longer till its either stopped by drilling or it reaches the edge of the screen, good news is it will not smash or star as the screen is laminated, so its only the outer layer of glass that is affected, it will be ok to leave until you want it replaced or can afford it :y but try to have it replaced on a good weather day, to give the adhesive a fair chance of going off without leaks!!

2 hours minimum for the "spoof" to go off properly, and that's if it's in excess of 25°C on the day.
Any colder and you really don't want the vehicle to move for at least 12 hours after fitting.

Of course if you are fully comp then the above won't matter, because the onus will be on the chosen glass company to get it right.

My old BMW was in at something like 9 in the morning, back with me by 2 and it was in April last year and wasn't 25 degrees. Not saying you're wrong mind you.

Not what my insurance paper work says.... 'Excess amounts towards a claim - Excess Amount for Windscreen Replacement £75'

I'll get it done after next week  :)

just to add a bit of clarity (some may say confusion...).  there is an excess on windscreen claims:  £75 according to Mr Tunnie's policy.

Replacing the screen counts as a cliam, typically not against the NCD so that is not affected (not is the renewal price) but deeper in the detail, if you want to cancel your policy for example (or possibly modify it) then they may argue that you have claimed and there is no remaining value in the policy.  I know it sounds odd but do read the policy document carefully.

He lives with his folks, has no outgoings of any consequence, so the 'wait til pay day' is confusing, tight sod ;D

Tunnie, you will have to pay windscreen excess only. Not your normal excess, nor will it affect NCD

Whenever I have had a new windscreen fitted (used to be at least a yearly thing in my old job!) I could garuantee i'd get a chip in it the next day!
