Just been speaking to my mate who has developed a problem with his car.

Peugot 607 2.0 HDI Saloon

Tank was showing low, just going into the red (which is low for him) went to fill up and only managed to get £2.35 of fuel in it, He can see the fuel to the top of the filler neck, he took it home after a bit of running about and checked the fuel at the cap, filler neck level is still full to the brim.

So it looks like the fuel is all still in the filler pipe (Approx 2 litres) and not getting into the tank.

He has tried a couple of sink plungers of all things over the filler neck and can hear the fuel slohing about but it wont go down,  could it be an air lock, is there any sort of device in the filler neck/system that could have jammed.

Seems a daft problem but there you go.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

The only thing I can think of and it is a long shot,has the float on the sensor become dis-lodged and caused the blockage? A sink unblocking wire would be more efficient at removing said blockage than a sink plunger.Just a thought.

Interesting, but cant see the float being an isue on a nearly empty tank.

One question I had was there a filter in the filler neck, the reason I thought of this was that our old works landrover had one fitted on it.  and if it did have one fitted then might it be blocked.

Is it too much of a pia to gain access to the fueltank to check from the 'receiving end' for any problems?

Dunno at this point.

I have told him to have a look underneath the car to see if he can see any damage, also to take the side panel out inside the boot on the chane he might gain access to the filler tube.

if its got a particulate filter system there is a seperate tank strapped to the side of the main tank for the fluid that it uses,just wondering if the fluid level is low and it stops you filling with diesel until sorted (eml light would be lit though)

Right.

He's now got a full tank of fuel, he's had the rear seats out and mentioned something about an inspection type panel with pipes and wires etc, so will assume thats the pump, sender unit etc.

He tried the sink syphon/plunger thing again and could hear a bit of a click as he did it, so had a mad session with the syphon (The mind boggles) and it seems it has realesed this flap. and the fuel in the filler neck went straight down, he then put a 5 litre can full in without problems and annother session at the filling station to top it to the brim.

We are now thinking that it might be some sort of flap to to fuel gudhing up the filler neck whilst cornering.  So hopefully a full tank of fuel will lubricate the flap.


Thanks for all your help, all he needs now is the planes to be flying on Friday as he and 7 of his mates are off to Benidorm  for the weekend to celebrate his 50th.

Daft thing is the dealer warranty ranout on 7th April.

The car seems to spend as much time as mine parked up, he only uses it at weekends to go and see a girlfriend, and thats only on alternate weekends, as he now has company transport.
