Elite - Shall I save it?
« on: 03 May 2010, 23:13:22 »

1996 Champagne, so quite old, early 3.0 Elite. However, near mint with nice black leather.

MOT expired, and engine overheating.

£175.

Shall I let the seller cube it... or, shall I give it a new lease of life, sort out the overheating, MOT it, and put back on the road?  :y

Just edited to add - it's not on fleabay or autotrader  ;)

It's always a tough decision, but personally, I'd let that one go. It's just that bit too old I think.
I gave away a fully functioning 1996 Volvo 850 2.5 turbo estate because of its age and mileage.
I'd say wait a bit, and something special will come up that takes your fancy  :y

If anyone can sort it out, you can! Suppose as always it depends on the cost and ultimate value of the car when the work is done, but I hate to see these motors scrapped. I guess there is usually a better market and value in parts (if that's the case then keep me posted!!) but also a certain sense of pride in restoring the car to a useable condition. Tough call  :-/

Stick to the original plan and buy a tractor estate, the 3.0 will cost money to fix and even more money to run....

My 3.2 isn't used half as much as it should be now i'm running the tractor and I don't suppose it will be until I LPG it.

total cost of ownership cant be estimated,

unless you open it, repair and run it on the road..

as a rule every car is a money drain between

purchase and sale .. if you decrease the intervals

and increase the number you buy, cost increases

unless you dont spend any for repair (although some friend mechanics here try that , but at the end they always loose more ;D)

imo buy one newish , keep long.. :y

You'll get £170 in scrap + the cats + the cams, I don't think the older interior will be worth much ;)
