Stag do Elite.. Is it legal?
« on: 10 May 2010, 10:00:23 »

Right guys, we have our Omega for the Stag do now (3.0 Elite) and i must say, it is amazing. So... we are now trying to find out how legal we are with the stickers that are planned for it. The car already has the orange hatchings on the back (Its a saloon by the way). We are planning some orange and dayglow yellow on the sides but dont know what pattern to use to look legal..ish.

Being mostly orange i cant see a big problem but we want to make it stand out. It does have STAG DO PACE/SAFETY CAR written down both sides below the bump strips in bright orange and OD GATS on the bonnet (STAG DO) in reverse.
Obviously we dont have blue flashing lights or anything.

So do you think we are ok to put an orange stripe down it with some dayglow yellow dotted over the car?

The car is Silver by the way.

I hope someone will know of the legalities.

Thanks for any help guys.

The thing you need to take into consideration is whether you use retro reflective...or non reflective material.
If you use non reflective, you can even use blue. But when you use retro reflective you have to be aware of certain regulations.
Retro reflective is what's used on police vehicles, so at night when headlights shine on the vehicle, the livery reflects and is highly visible.
Non reflective does what it says on the tibe, but you can get bright colours that stand out in the day time.

I'd use a majority of non reflective, vinyl and the small amounts of retro reflective.

Regarding legality of livery...I can't see there being a problem. It doesn't impersonate another vehicle or ageny on the road. It can't be mistaken for Police, or Highways agency so it should be fine  :y

As Josh says, what you have to think of, is the fact as soon as it starts making motorits think you are a cop car you could then start drawing attentin to yourself for the wrong reasons.

Well the material we have is all non reflective. We are not planning on using reflective atall.
Still not sure what pattern to use down the side. Ive just had this reply from the west Yorkshire Police via e-mail (Dont know why West Yorkshire- I live in Wiltshire)

Marcus

As long as it doesn't look like an emergency vehicle and is not too garish
as to distract other drivers you should be OK with this. Make sure registration plates and lights can be seen and nothing over the windows that will block your view of the road.

Sounds like they're up for it. 8-)

So.... any ideas on a pattern? We have lots of orange vinyl and 12 a4 sheets of very bright yellow.
