What engine would you choose and why?

As a few of you might know if you've read some of my posts, in september i'm gonna be doing some extensive searches for insurance quotes to see if I can upgrade my omega

i definately want an elite, and although I love my auto, I think i want to go back to manual

is there much of a difference between a 2.5 and a 2.6? are any of them known to run in to any specific problems? do any of them come with different standard extras? i.e the 3.0 and 3.2 having leather as standard rather than optional extra?

popular opinion here, is the 2.5. The 2.6 coil per plug system, is un-proven. The DIS system could be more reliable, the 2.6 also has the extended plenum which it does not require. It was only put on because Vaux could not fit the DBW throttle body on the shorter plenum.

doesn't 2.6 have drive by throttle as well,2.5 much better :y :y :y

Similar power/economy etc. Obviously the 2.6 will be newer.  Reliability seems to be similar, or slightly in favour of 2.5 - the CPP and throttle assemblies seem weak points, and expensive....

2.6 for me  :y

Mind you it's the only Omega have owned and so far is way ahead (have had it 4 years with only service costs and a few minor improvements) and of the rest of the cars I've owned listing the following hall of shame

Fiat 127  :-X
Fiesta 950 pop plus  :-X
Rover 213 - Honda engine was excellent - not so after Cambelt snapped on way to work on motorway - a bit of a mess!!!! :(
Vectra 1.6 LS - crashed that one
Rover 216
Escort 1.4 Ghia
Laguna 1.8 RT - Company Car - nasty cars them >:(
Mondeo 1.8TD Hated that car soooo much >:(
Vectra 2.0 GLS - That was nice but crashed that one too :-[
and after all them above the 2.6CDX seems like a very fast limousine :D :y

The power/torque difference is too marginal to use that to base choice on. Cruise is a PITA on 2.6, as Tech2 required....

2.6 works fine, 117000 so far, cam belt changes as normal, thermostat at around 105000, oil & filters.
DBW may not be as smooth as cable, but difference is marginal.
No other problems yet, I may wish I hadn't said that.

No EGR or air injection to worry about on the 2.6 - not that they cause much of a worry. Slightly less clutter under the engine bay mitigated by the fact that the plenum has to come off to get the cam cover off  :-/

3.0/3.2. More power, more torque! :)

2.5 is nice, I own one right now, but I drove the project lpg tonight. That is a 3.0 and there was a BIG difference in power and the ease of delivery.

But if it was choice between the 2 smaller ones, I would choose the 2.5. More proven, doesn't have DBW throttle, coil per plug etc.

It's a matter of opinion but not sure I would call it 'slightly', Kevin....

Taking-off the plenum proved much easier without having to take-off (and put back) the EGR, ICV, and Throttle link.... and I have no DIS to worry about either  8-)

Ideally a 2.5/3.00 Automatic..Lazy git.. ;D

I would settle for any engine in an Omega at this moment as mines been off the road since March, Driving around in a Peugeot 405, Great economy but would like the comfort back of the Omega.. One day my dreams will come true.. ;D ;D
