Is my Elite worth more in parts?
« on: 29 June 2007, 07:44:53 »

As some may know, I'm considering selling the Elite Saloon.

But it's crossed my mind, that it may actually be worth more in parts, than as a complete car! I'm guessing as a car, it's worth about £400/£500 on fleabay, with an honest description of the AR25. Maybe more, but it's the luck of the draw.

However, selling off the parts, might be more profitable?

£100 for 3.0 cams,
£80 for set of Elite Alloys
£100 for Cream leather interior
£40 for cyl. heads
£35 for cruise control actuator and stalk
£35 for both Cats
£5 for MFD
Climate control panel £25
Rear Blind £25
£10 cam covers
£10 Alternator
£25 Aircon compressor and condensor
£5 all dash buttons / switches
£5 glovebox
£5 x 2 light clusters

That little lot, is £510....

What Shall I do - break it, or tidy it up and flog it? Bearing in mind, time may be a bit of an issue...

(Please not the above is not a price list, just me "thinking out loud"...

Nope, I will go against the grain. Break it.

I think you will be fortunate to realise £500 on ebay. Breaking it will easily get you more, as long as you really strip it (a good 1.5 days work) and have someone ready to collect the shell.

I agree with Dave. Cruise is more like £50, not £35. Climate panel? I sold one last year for £81. Give me the cats for £35! I will weigh them in for £70 any day. AC cpompressor, £50. Condensor, £40. ABS actuator, £50. Central locking solenoids, £10 each.  Electric rear window morors, switch set and rear looms for same, £50. POlenum caps, £2 the set. Hydraulic tappets worth keeping. aux tensioner £10. Cam sprokets £10 each. Rear light clusters, outboard £5 EACH, inboard £3 each. Headlights (yes I know they are old) £30 the pair. and the list goes on and on and on and on and........

Interesting,

I sold the 2.0 on ebay for £500 - in poorer condition than this one - are they worth more?

It is the luck of the draw, but also you ahve to remember that people perceive the 2.0 as being much more economical than the V6.

Cheaper to insure and run, so at the £500 end of the market quite possibly so.

I'm probably thinking with my heart more than my head but it just seems a shame to break (what looks, from your pictures, to be) a tidy car.

However, the gearbox conundrum would make me uneasy about selling it on and I'm guessing you're running out of enthusiasm for putting that right?

Someone needs to buy it and do a manual conversion.

I agree Kevin.Seems a shame especially with 10 months mot..I wish my car had mot.

If i could afford it i would take the chance on it even with the gearbox issue.. :y

Breaking it may bring in some more money but what about the work involved when fitting all the things in the first place..

I WOULD sell it with the AR25 on ebay, but I would be honest about the fact that the AR25 was fitted. I can't do anymore than that.

You'll be amazed what people buy on ebay....

There isn't a gearbox issue - it's as smooth as silk and totally reliable - it will just fail early if the car is driven too hard..
